Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain watched Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' video together the first time they had sex.

The Hole singer can vividly remember the first time she and her late husband - who committed suicide in April 1994 - made love and as they laid together afterwards Kurt's song was played on MTV.

In an excerpt from upcoming book, 'I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution' serialised by New York magazine, Courtney recalls: "The first time Kurt and I slept together was at a Days Inn in Chicago. We were having our first post-coital moment, and we're watching MTV and the ['Smells Like Teen Spirit'] video came on."

Courtney admits it was a particularly poignant moment for the couple because Kurt made a point of pulling her closer to him as they watched the promo - which features the band performing at a high school basketball court.

She remembered: "I pulled away from him because it was his video, his moment, he was the king of the f***ing world.

"But he put his arm around me and pulled me closer. Which was symbolic, like, 'I'm letting you into my life.' That really endeared him to me."

The 47-year-old musician also claims the iconic video played a part in the conception of their daughter Frances Bean in 1991, as the second time she watched it was when she and Kurt had sex at a Minneapolis hotel.

Courtney - who claims she had originally gone to the hotel to meet up with Smashing Pumpkins rocker Billy Corgan - said: "I didn't even know Nirvana were playing that night. Kurt and I wound up at the Northstar, and our daughter, Frances, was basically made that night."
