The recent ascendency of grime to the British mainstream has once again been confirmed with the nominations for the 2016 Mobo Awards, with Kano and recent Mercury Prize winner Skepta both receiving multiple nominations.

Skepta, whose album Konnichiwa scooped the prestigious Mercury Prize last week, edging out records by the heavily-favoured David Bowie and Radiohead, is nominated for three awards, including Best Male, Best Album and Best Grime Act.

Craig David has announced he’ll be releasing new album Following My Intuition on September 30th. It’s the first new record from David since his 2010 album Signed Sealed Delivered and it will feature single ‘When The Bassline Drops’, which hit number two on the UK dance charts last year.

The pair struck up a friendship during ‘The X Factor’ last year, when he worked alongside her training up her act Reggie N Bollie, who finished as runners-up in the 2015 series. Furthermore, recent rumours have suggested that the two have become romantically involved in the wake of Cheryl’s recent split from estranged husband Jean-Bernard.

The news comes after Cheryl’s marriage to French husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini has been under scrutiny in recent months, with the couple rumoured to be heading for a divorce.

The Sun reports that the two struck up a close friendship after Craig appeared on ‘The X-Factor’ to perform with Cheryl’s act Reggie N Bollie during the December final. A source told the newspaper, “The atmosphere was electric when they met on the X Factor set.”
