Craig Ferguson Warns 'Late Night' Host Seth Meyers This Job "Will Drive You Crazy"

Craig Ferguson

Craig Ferguson has had his own late night talk show for over a decade, so he definitely know what he is talking about when it comes to being a host, in fact the Scottish comedian was even gracious enough to give an up and coming host, Seth Meyers, a stern warning about the job.

Ferguson, who is leaving his position on CBS' 'Late Late Show' in December,' stopped by NBC's 'Late Night with Seth Meyers' on Tuesday night (Sept 16th) and described how this job can make you "go crazy," as well as bizarrely recalling being in a rock band with 'Doctor Who' star, Peter Capaldi.

James Corden is replacing Craig Ferguson as host on CBSThe Late Late Show, according to various reports. The British actor/comedian will be filling the vacancy announced earlier this year.

The move represents a sizable boost for Corden’s career. He broke onto the scene with his performance in Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, playing the character of Timms. But it wouldn’t be until Gavin and Stacey, on which his character of Smithy endeared so many, that Corden would permeate the zeitgeist of celebrity.

David Letterman will be succeeded by Stephen Colbert as host on CBS's The Late Show, it has been announced today. Letterman revealed that he'd be retiring from the late night talkshow last Thursday prompting immediate speculation over who would be replacing the long-term host.

How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris quickly surfaced as a potential successor but the actor was unenthused about the prospect when quizzed during a press conference last week. Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson was also a name that was circulated widely but both rumours have been disproved upon CBS' announcement.

Craig Ferguson Drops His 'Great Day For America' Speech In Wake Of Boston Bombings

Craig Ferguson

Similarly to Patton Oswalt, TV host Craig Ferguson took a moment’s pause from his usual comedic routine and jovial programme introduction in which he usually says “it’s a great day for America.” The reason for the switch in tone of course, was the news of the Boston bombings, which occurred at the end of the Boston Marathon yesterday (April 15, 2013). It certainly was not a good day for America. Ferguson knew that it would have been insensitive to continue in his usual manner and also knew that he could not ignore the recent incidents.

“Is anyone else sick of this sh*t?” He asked his audience, before commenting that he has to alter his intro “too often,” for some “random act of madness or terrorism.” He reassured his viewers, though, by telling them “it’s ok to laugh!” He explained that as people have been watching the news and analysis of the bombings all day, his role on TV is a different one to the newsreaders. “People want their mind taken off it,” the Scottish-American comedian confessed “but I can’t not think about it.”

Patton Oswalt is another comedian who took time out from the funny routines to mark the occasion with a spot of sober thinking. On his Facebook page, he posted “Boston. Fucking horrible. I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity. But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths. But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out… This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.”

Brave Takes Home The Oscar For Best Animated Film Academy Awards Ceremony

Academy Of Motion Pictures And Sciences Kelly MacDonald Robbie Coltrane Billy Connolly Craig Ferguson Emma Thompson Julie Walters

Pixar added yet another Academy Award to the pile last night as the Disney-owned studio's fantasy blast from the past Brave picked up the top prize for animation at the star-studded event.

The film, inspired by Gaelic folklore and the landscape of the Scottish Highlands, had already won the BAFTA and Golden Globe for the same category - following in the footsteps of the six Pixar films that have also won the award since it's inaugural year in 2001. The film battled off competition from Wreck-it Ralph, Frankenweenie, ParaNorman and The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! to take home the award.

In addition to being set in a pre-historic Scotland, the film also incorporated a wealth of Scottish talent including Kelly MacDonald, Robbie Coltrane, Billy Connolly and Craig Ferguson, with Brits Emma Thompson and Julie Walters also voicing parts in the film. Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond praised the film and it's continued success - and what it means to Scotland too - telling the BBC, "To win the Oscar for best animated film is a massive achievement. It is absolutely fantastic to see Merida and the gang continue to fly the flag for Scotland in Hollywood."

Brave Review

Excellent
Pixar continues pushing boundaries with this lavishly animated Scottish adventure, which centres on an involving mother-daughter relationship. The characters are wonderfully vivid, even if the film never quite achieves the transcendence of its nearest Pixar relative, Ratatouille.

In the 10th century highlands, Princess Merida (voiced by Macdonald) is annoyed that her only fate seems to be to choose a suitor from three eligible losers.

She'd much rather be out having epic adventures and making her own history. Her mother, Queen Elinor (Thompson), struggles to keep Merida in line, to say nothing of her rambunctious husband, King Fergus (Connolly), and three tearaway young sons. When Merida's frustration boils over, she consults a witch (Walters) about a spell that will sort her mother out. Of course, what happens isn't what she had in mind.
