This Is The End Review

Excellent

Comedies don't get much more self-referential than this film, in which a bunch of old friends get together and play themselves facing a biblical-style apocalypse. But they also don't get much funnier. Writing partners Rogen and Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express) move into directing with this super-charged bromance that finds surprising resonance amid a constant barrage of vulgarity, in-jokes and end-of-the-world mayhem.

Rogen also stars as himself, happy that his childhood friend Jay is coming to visit him in Los Angeles. Jay prefers to live at home in Canada, far from the plastic L.A. scene, so Seth sets aside the first day with video games and lots of weed. Then they head to James' house for a starry Hollywood party, during which a series of massive earthquakes kills off most of the A-list guests. Seth, Jay and James survive, along with Jonah, Craig and Danny, and as they set up camp in James' mansion, their friendships are strained. Mainly because Danny eats their supply of food, Jay wants to go home, and Jonah is simply too nice to be believed. Until he's possessed by an angry demon.

The blinding array of cameos gives the film's early scenes a terrific kick, as big stars hilariously spoof their public personas before meeting a variety of fiery ends. An especially spiky Watson gets a few extra scenes of her own, while Cera has the most fun as a diva obsessed with sex and drugs. And Tatum gets the most jaw-dropping moment. But it's our six heroes who hold the film together, and their camaraderie adds a surprising warmth, most notably in the central bromance between Rogen and Baruchel.

You Should See 'This Is The End' And Here's Why

Seth Rogen James Franco Jonah Hill Craig Robinson Danny McBride

We’ve all wanted to see This Is Then End ever since the very first trailer hit the airwaves, but now it looks like a ticket to the screening of the apocalyptic party movie might be more worth it than we thought. Oh, you thought you were getting a simple-minded comedy with celebrities acting like idiots? Well, it is that too, don’t worry, but surprisingly, This Is The End also takes its place as a skewering satire of celebrity culture – part of a definite trend lately.

While, yes, there are more famous faces in the film than at a Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, what makes this film isn’t the mere presence of so many stars. Instead, the appeal is in the way the hyperbolized versions of famous actors interact with each other. Penned by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (who also doubles as a member of the apocalypse squad in the movie,) this film sees both writers on top of their game. At the beginning of their career, the creative team set the bar pretty high with the hilarious nerdy romp Superbad. Unfortunately, they then failed to repeat the act with films like Pineapple Express.

Seth Rogen Gets Back Into The Groove With 'This Is The End'

Seth Rogen Jonah Hill Michael Cera James Franco Emma Watson Craig Robinson

If you’ve been keeping up on your film news at all this year, Seth Rogen’s apocalyptic comedy This Is The End should have been a big bleep on the radar. Not only does it feature pretty much everyone you can think of on the Hollywood comedy circuit (seriously, you have Michael Sera acting opposite Jason Segel, Rogen, James Franco, Emma Watson, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson and cameos from practically every big comedian of the past five years.) The cast list goes on and on.

This Is The End Trailer

When actor James Franco threw a party for his fellow movie stars including the star-studded cast of 'Knocked Up' and several stars of Seth Rogen's comedies including Seth himself, Jay Baruchel, Jason Segel, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, no-one expected it to be anything more than your average drink fuelled Hollywood superparty. However, things take a turn for the worst when they experience a major earthquake; the ground opens up to the hottest depths of the Earth's core swallowing up Rihanna and Jason Segal as mysterious beasts start swarming around outside. What's a comedy cast to do with limited food and no real skills of the like they portray in the movies - especially when golden girl Emma Watson bursts in on them wielding an axe demanding all their resources. This is Hollywood versus the apocalypse, but who would really win?

'Peeples' Formulaic, But Cute Script Lets Robinson And Washington's Comedic Talents Shine

Craig Robinson

Peeples – it’s pretty much Meet the Parents, but funnier. We all know and love Craig Robinson from his role in the office, but lately the actor has been branching out onto the big screen with this and the upcoming James Franko apocalypse comedy (if that isn’t a genre it should become one immediately) This Is The End. In Peeples however, Robinson has a much more lighthearted part as Wade a ne’er-do-well entertainer of children, who is trapped for a weekend with the disapproving father of his high powered lawyer girlfriend. Sound familiar? Like we said, it’s pretty much the same formula as Meet the Parents. Oddly enough though, Robinson and co. manage to pull it off with enough humor and realism to make the characters seem plausible, but just absurd enough to be funny.

According to the film’s full title, it is a Tyler Perry production, but don’t let that put you off just yet. Tina Gordon Chism’s writing and direction bring to this an honesty and humanity, which make it truly watchable, especially with the addition of Robinson and Washingon’s undeniable on-screen chemistry. If you’re in for some easy viewing and a few cheap laughs right before the summer, then this might be for you. Peeples opens in theatres today, Friday, May 10.

Escape From Planet Earth Trailer

Scorch Supernova is a highly respected astronaut who also happens to be a brawny blue alien from the planet Baab. While spending his working hours rescuing distressed civilians from various planets, Scorch's intelligent but significantly scrawnier brother Gary guides him from mission control at the national space agency BASA. However, Scorch's strength and bravery is tested when the BASA chief Lena informs him of an SOS call from one extremely dangerous planet. In spite of Gary's strong warnings, Scorch sets out to rescue his fellow alien from whatever danger might be lurking but finds himself trapped and imprisoned by the planet's inhabitants; one of which is the alien-hating Shanker who vows to rid the universe of all alien lifeforms. Gary finds himself landed with a new responsibility; he must now become the rescuer and aid his brother in his escape from the dark planet and with it, secure the future of his own.

This sci-fi animated flick is a thrilling, adorable and immensely funny journey through space directed by Cal Brunker ('Ninjamaica') in his first cinematic movie. Seth Rogan And James Franco See Out End Of The World In Hilarious New Trailer For 'This Is The End'

James Franco Danny McBride Craig Robinson Jonah Hill Emma Watson

The end is nigh! Well, it isn't really, but if it were then the new trailer for the upcoming Seth Rogan and James Franco staring comedy This Is The End probably leads the way in acceptable ways to see out the end of days.

The new clip sees the pair inside 'real-life' Franco's bunker, presenting the trailer for the film which we will all unfortunately miss, because it comes out next summer (we wont really miss it though of course). The two spend the last night on the world as we know it playing with a gun, masturbating, engaging in a 'sword-fight,' fighting over weed and eventually spooning before bed - what else would you want to do.

After the brilliant into, we're treated to an all new, red banded trailer of the actual film about the end of the Earth, which just so happens to be as funny as the beginning. As well as the Pineapple Express, there's a host of other big names set to star in the upcoming film, including: Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel and Craig Robinson, as well as a few cameos from the likes of Emma Watson to name but one, each playing an exaggerated (maybe) version of themselves.

Miss March Review

Terrible
Written, directed, and starring Trevor Moore and Zach Cregger, 2/5ths of the sketch comedy group The Whitest Kids U Know, Miss March chronicles both one man's lifetime infatuation with Playboy magazine and another man's apprehensive four-year attempt to lose his virginity to his girlfriend. The former, Tucker (Moore), has been obsessed with the cultural implications of the high-end porn mag since he first got a glimpse of one of the Pamela Anderson issues. The best friend is Eugene (Cregger), a high-school student who doubles as an abstinence lecturer. Along with his devout girlfriend Cindi (Raquel Alessi), Eugene recounts how his brother had sex and then had "retard babies" that later went on to burn down his house and kill his mother. The tirade is accompanied by projections of Syphilis-infected no-no areas.

With prom around the corner, Cindi insists that since they are so totally made for each other they should go all the way. At the behest of Tucker, Eugene gets hammered and before he can go upstairs and enjoy the best eight seconds of his life-to-date, he falls down the stairs and lands a coma for four years. Awakened by a medical advent called "The Bat Trick," which consists of Tucker hitting him in the face with a Louisville Slugger, Eugene comes to find that Cindi is now a Playboy Playmate. Serendipitously, the upcoming weekend offers a chance for all the Playmates to converge on the Playboy Mansion, and the two friends take to the road while also evading Tucker's epileptic girlfriend (Molly Stanton).

Zack And Miri Make A Porno Review

Very Good
Zack and Miri Make a Porno is the latest film by Kevin Smith and, for better or for worse, it's the same movie the 38-year-old New Jersey native has been making for the last 14 years. That isn't to say there aren't changes. The setting is no longer his beloved hometown and the characters, though certainly of the same mindset, are not members of the director's View Askew universe. There is also the matter of Seth Rogen who constitutes, with the lone exception of Ben Affleck, the only bona fide movie star Smith has cast in a leading role to date. That being said, I'm sure Rogen would let out a chuckle at the thought of himself as any sort of star.

As with most of the filmmaker's oeuvre, all you need to know is in the title. Zack (Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) are best friends, living together and working crap jobs in Pittsburgh. They barely make rent and often substitute frivolous pleasures like sex toys and hockey skates in lieu of water and heat. It's at a high school reunion that they reconnect with Miri's high-school crush Bobby Long (Brandon Routh of Superman Returns) and his lover (Justin Long), both gay porn stars earning triple-digit incomes in Los Angeles. At a bar afterwards, Zack realizes that a similar career path would solve Miri's and his financial troubles.
