Cults (Formed 2010)
Cults are a New York-based indie pop band known for their debut EP 'Cults 7"' which they released for free on their Bandcamp page.
Formation: In 2010, singer Madeline Follin and guitarist Brian Oblivion met in New York as students. Oblivion was studying documentary cinema at New York University, whereas Follin was studying at The New School in New York. Follin had been working with Californian band Youth Gone Mad on their 2000 album, 'Touching Cloth'.
Career: Cults released their debut EP, 'Cults 7"', through Forrest Family Records. The lead single, 'Go Outside', was accompanied by a music video featuring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco. On 7th June, 2011, Cults released their self-titled debut album, through Lilly Allen's 'In the Name Of' record label from Columbia Records. On 15th October 2013, Cults released their second studio album, 'Static', which revived overall favourable reviews but failed to chart. The duo also made an appearance on the song Born Sinner by J. Cole along with Amber Coffman. The song reached the number one spot on Billboard's 200 list.
They also go on tour across the US and Canada next month.
New York duo Cults are soon to release their third studio album 'Offering', and we have to say after four years we are so ready for it. Ahead of that though, they have just dropped a video for their new single 'I Took Your Picture With My Eyes Closed' which follows the release of the outstanding title track.
Cults release their new album 'Offering' in October
Directed by Elliott Sellers, the video for 'I Took Your Picture' was filmed in Piermont, New York - including a shot on the roof of vocalist Brian Oblivion's home - where they originally recorded their debut single 'Go Outside' from their initial 2010 EP 'Cults 7"'. The song is a dreamy, electronic dance number not unlike the previously released title track.

The Le Plur stage will feature electronic producers Boys Noize and Calvin Harris at 6:15 and 7:30 respectively, while the soulful tones of Allen Stone and ZZ Ward will be resonating over on Flambeau. The Carnival stage will also have some interesting sounds emanating from it over the first day, with Nashville rock 'n' rollers Those Darlins appearing early on in the afternoon ahead of California 6-piece Youngblood Hawke and chiptune band Anamanaguchi closing the stage at 8:15.

Talking to the artists... Small festivals don't necessarily mean an inferior line-up as was more than proved at the quaint Beacons Festival 2013 in the Yorkshire Dales town of Skipton. We caught up with Ghostpoet before his Friday set (which was definitely a weekend highlight!) where he confessed that he'd 'changed in many ways and some of it may have been for the better and some of it not' over the last year but still doesn't think of himself as 'being successful'. He also talked about working with Melo-X and his fondness for documenting interesting cars on Instagram. Read the full interview here.
NYPC have abandoned their former moniker of New York Pony Club as they have gone through quite a rebirth since the departure of former band member Lou Hayter. 'We've taken what we've perceived as being the strongest elements of the previous two albums and tried to make them into something which is mature and progressive', Tahita Bulmer told us in an interview when we caught up with them to talk about their new self-titled album. She also didn't hesititate to tell all about NYPC's touring adventures - including their trip to the 'amazing' and 'unspoilt' Kazakhstan. Read the full interview here.
