Daft Punk are reportedly set to headline Glastonbury Festival next year.

The French electronic music duo - which is made up of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter - are rumoured to helm the annual music extravaganza, which will take place at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England, in 2017.

Although the group have not confirmed this, there is growing speculation they band will perform because traditionally they perform live every 10 years and they will be taking a one-year hiatus in 2018.

The 56th annual Grammy awards lineup, which already includes the likes of Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Daft Punk, among others, has just got a whole lot more exciting with the addition of Beyonce and Madonna. So far, plans to include the two iconic performers in the lineup are only tentative, but it is a definite possibility, according to the Los Angeles Times. 

A performance by Beyonce would be the first chance to hear the new songs live.

The ceremony will be broadcast on Sunday, January 26 from LA’s Staples Center. The Times article cites a recent interview with GRAMMY producer Ken Ehrlich, who does not confirm or deny the pop divas' participation in the upcoming event. Bey and Madge’s representatives have also refused to confirm or deny the booking. Let the speculation begin.

Kanye West isn't afraid to make his feelings be known and as you may expect, the rapper had plenty to say after the nominations for the 2014 Grammy Awards were revealed last week, with his latest album Yeezus only getting two nominations in the rap categories. Rather than count his blessings, Kanye let his feelings be known at a recent stop off in Phoenix, Arizona, where he queried what the Grammys are "trying to say."

A video of Kanye's near-15-minute rant made its way on to KissFM's Instagram page and website, with the opinionated rapper questioning why on earth he has been overlooked in favour of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Sara Bareilles and others Kanye would never consider to be on his level. Informing the crowd, the rapper raved, "Yeezus is the top 1 or 2 album on every single list, but only gets two nominations from the Grammys. What are they trying to say?"

'Blurred Lines' is the biggest selling single of 2013 in the UK, the Official Charts Company revealed today (7 Dec), having sold more than 1 million copies in the UK alone. Robin Thicke's controversial track managed to beat Daft Punk's come-back single 'Get Lucky' to the top of the yearly chart, providing these results don't prompt a huge surge in re-interest in the Daft Punk track.

With 1.44 million copies sold in the UK, Thicke's single edged ahead of the French electronic heroes by a few thousand copies, with 'Get Lucky' so far having sold 1.28 million copies. Either way, this is great news for Pharrell Williams, who appears on both tracks.

The nominees for the 2014 Grammy Awards have been announced and after a year when hip-hop comebacks and newcomers have dominated the music scene, it is rap that leads the way in the Grammy nominations for next year. Jay-Z leads the nominations with nine nods in total, followed closely by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Kendrick Lamar, both of which have seven nominations each.

It isn't just hip-hop being honoured at the awards show, as the two most coveted categories: Record of the Year and Album of the Year, only have two rap representatives in them (three if you count T.I.'s verse on 'Blurred Lines,' which is up for Record of the Year), with Good Kid, M.A.A.D City by Kendrick and The Heist by Macklemore both up for Album of the Year. Daft Punk are up for both categories, with 'Get Lucky' and their album Random Access Memories earning recognition from the Grammy committee. The Blessed Unrest by Sara Bareilles and Red by Taylor Swift make up the rest of the album list and 'Blurred Lines,' 'Locked Out of Heaven' by Bruno Mars, 'Royals' by Lorde and 'Radioactive' by Imagine Dragons completing the Record of the Year category.

Katy Perry is back on top, once again enjoying the view from the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 Chart. Her new album, Prism, isn't just Perry's second number one album though, it also carries the distinction of being the highest selling album of the year, from a female entertainer.

This is according to the result compiled by Nielsen in the week ending Sunday, 27 October, published by Billboard. Perry's immediate success overshadows Miley Cyrus' success with Bangerz, which previous held the top selling female artist distinction. Whilst Bangers scored a cool 270,000 sales at the first attempt at the beginning of the month, Prism managed to sell 286,000 copies in the first week. With 339,000 copies sold in the first week, only Daft Punk's Random Access Memoires has sold more records in it's debut week in 2013, and we still have two months worth of competition to look forward to.

Pharrell Williams has appeared on two of the biggest hits of 2013; Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' and Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines,' and is currently enjoying one of the most successful periods of his already illustrious career. Not one to forget his roots, Pharrell is also working on a new N.E.R.D. album, but told the BBC recently that he has no plans on rush finishing it to cash in on his current wave of success.

"N.E.R.D. is the special thing. You don't just throw that [new music] out there. You take your time and you get it right," he told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat. The group, whose hits include 'Rockstar' and 'She Wants To Move,' last released an album in 2010, when they brought out the mixed received Nothing. Since then Pharrell has focused on his solo and production duties for artists such as Daft Punk, Thicke, Kanye West, Frank Ocean and Justin Timberlake. Now the producer extraordinaire is taking his time to make a quality record with bandmates Sheldon Haley and Chad Hugo.

Daft Punk cancelled their appearance on The Colbert Report on Tuesday night, this was so they could make a surprise appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Iconic guitarist Nile Rogers, who was responsible in large part for the unique sound of Daft Punk’s runaway hit Get Lucky, has been officially cleared of cancer. The guitarist announced the news over Twitter on Monday, saying: "Instead of showing gross internal video I'll show my doctor's fly examination room. I'M ALL CLEAR AGAIN."

Rogers has been given the all clear.

Rogers believes that the success of Get Lucky had a lot to do with his recovery. In an interview with The Official Chart Company earlier this year, he explained: "I was facing life and death issues and then to get something so rewarding as a number one record is pretty amazing."

The singer was in attendance for band Sourberry's set at South London Pacific when she hopped up on-stage with her Tequila shot during the soundcheck and gave a...wobbly...performance of Daft Punk's summer hit single 'Get Lucky.'

Covers band Sourberry wrote: "It was the annual Sourberry summer party and Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine was in attendance. She hopped up on stage during our sound check and rocked out a couple of numbers with us while we warmed up. 'Get Lucky' - Daft Punk and 'Standing In The Way Of Control' - The Gossip. Well, it’s the middle of the year and about time to recap the big events in music in 2013 – particularly, the best and worst sales numbers of the year. the It turns out, not so surprisingly, that French electronic duo Daft Punk have broken records both for album and single sales this year. However, it’s not just Daft Punk, who are getting a hefty chunk from the retail pie – sales of both singles and albums are up from this time in 2012 – with singles experiencing a 2.5 percent increase, while compilation sales are un 9% (according to the Telegraph). It seems that the music business has didital sales to thank for whatever increase there is in the overall numbers, seeing as how 99% of all UK sales this year have fallen into the digital category.

Unless lightning strikes twice, Daft Punk are set to come out as this year's clear winners.

In terms of singles, it is no secret that Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, featuring Pharrell Williams and Chic's Nile Rodgers easily takes the top spot for sales. Since its release ten weeks ago, the summer hit has passed one million individual sales in the UK. Not only that, but the record has also broken records for number of plays on streaming service Spotify – and it managed to do it in just 24 hours after its release. Clearly, the Frenchmen are on a roll this year, since the full album – Random Access Memories, also broke the Spotify streaming record on its release shortly after. The second single, not so unexpectedly, is Robin Thicke’s single Blurred Lines – also a collaboration with Pharell Williams – with 828 000 copies sold to date.

Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” can’t be described as anything other than a mega hit at this point, which may be why the French electronic duo released a special surprise for their fans recently – a ten-minute, extended mix of the track. According to Billboard, who first featured the extended version, it includes all of the song’s familiar elements – the guitar and the vocals are all there, only now, you don’t have to hit replay.

Who wants to know what Daft Punk look like without their helmets on? Not many of you probably because there have been plenty of pictures of the French duo in the past without their robot head gear on. We mean, do you really think that they wear those things 24 hours a day 7 days week? Think of the smell that would build up? We presume they sweat like any other human being.

Nevertheless, in what apparently constitutes as news, it would appear that the electro icons have been pictures – again – without their hats on. Electronic music duo The Knocks were, um, knocking about with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter at the office of their record label, Columbia, and they took a picture of the pair enjoying some down time and playing beer pong. Great craic. However, they realised that Daft Punk have kind of made it their ‘thing’ to only be photo’d wearing their robot headgear and so swiftly deleted the pic from Twitter where they’d posted it, and commented "GUESS WE WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO POST THAT PIC :X"

Unfortunately for them someone had saved the image and now Gawker have posted it which means that it might as well be on big billboards all over the place really. So what do they look like then? Two pretty normal French dudes of course. What did you expect?

The Daft Punk juggernaut (the Punkanaut?) rolls on, with the robot head-wearing French duo managing to top the US Billboard album charts for a second week in a row with their comeback album Random Access Memories. The Americans love their stats when it comes to charts and things like that, so here’s some for you:

Randon Access Memories shifted 93,000 copies on its second week in the US charts, that pushes it onto 432,000 overall. The figures mean that the album has suffered a 73% drop in sales compared to the previous week, which is over the average of 68%, the seventh number one album to drop by more than 70% this year but some way short of Just Bieber’s Believe, which dropped 79.4% week-on-week. The shortest drop in sales by a number one album incidentally was Josh Groban’s All That Echoes, which decline a mere 50.4%. Well done Josh.

So there you go. Stats. Enjoyable huh? Following Daft Punk in this week’s charts are Alice In Chains, gaining their highest chart position on the American album charts since 1995’s The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here. It sold 61,000 copies. In third place, John Fogerty has scored his highest ever album placing, with Wrote A Song For Everyone shifting 51,000 copies. The top five is completed by British group Little Mix, selling 50,000 of DNA, and Blake Shelton’s Based On A True Story. His album has increased by 69% in sales following his appearance on NBC charity special 'Healing In The Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert.' Who said charity doesn’t pay eh?

To say that Random Access Memories, the fourth studio album from French electronic pioneers Daft Punk, is turning out to be the band's most successful release to date would be something of an understatement. Over the weekend the album has added at least two more titles to it's plethora of records, including fastest selling album of 2013 and most streamed album on Spotify.

Despite already spawning their most successful single to date, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter got to watch their album shift 165,000 copies in the United Kingdom over the course of last week, making it the fastest selling album of the year so far.

The album sits proudly atop the UK Album Chart despite new releases from The National, 30 Seconds To Mars, Texas and Demi Lovato, looking as though it will take some beating to make it's achievements look any less impressive. It isn't just the U.K. where the album has seen success though, scoring similar results in Australia; where it achieved platinum certification almost immediately thanks to strong pre-order sales and currently stands as the years most successful release down under. In America, the album has only had the weekend to perform in, but is already expected to become one of the most successful albums in the Billboard Album Charts this year.

There have been plenty of music comebacks this year, from David Bowie to Justin Timberlake to Daft Punk. But we all know the one you’ve really been waiting for, don’t we? It’s Paris Hilton of course! Tragically MIA from the music industry since her 2006 debut LP Paris (which, we were shocked to re-discover, went to number six on the Billboard charts and sold around 200,000 copies in the States,) she’s confirmed that she’s back in the music making game! And has signed a record deal with, um, a hip hop label!

Showbiz411 first reported the story, Paris is apparently already recording her second album and is putting it out on the world famous rap label CashMoney! And Lil Wayne’s possibly going to be one it! So does that mean that the multi-millionaire heiress is going to be spitting some mad rhymes on her forthcoming material? Not quite, though she insists that it will be a markedly different sound from her previous record. We can’t remember what her previous sound was, so we’re just going to nod blindly in agreement with her.

“This is a lot different than my first album,” Paris Showbiz 411. “It’s really going to be house music.” Sounds great! Perhaps. Ever the business woman, Hilton also revealed she was back at work on her fragrance ranges. “I’m getting ready to launch my 17th perfume,” she said. “And I’m also starting the Paris Hilton Foundation for children’s causes.”

Daft Punk star Thomas Bangalter has revealed how the dance duo's anonymity once backfired when a man ran up a huge bar tab in Ibiza. The dance icons' alter-egos have enabled them to keep their identities masked since their debut album Homework, though it hasn't always helped the group.

"One thing I like about the masks is that I don't have people constantly coming up to me and reminding me what I do," Bangalter told Rolling Stone. "It's nice to be able to forget, but there are occasional downsides. Several years ago in Ibiza some guy ran up exorbitant bar tabs at clubs while claiming to be me." The pair had previously revealed how their anonymity resulted in touts trying to sell them tickets to their own show at London's Astoria in 1997. 

Daft Punk returned with their No.1 single 'Get Lucky' earlier this year, which surpassed the 500,000 sales mark last week. Their new album Random Access Memories is set to break Oasis' record for the fastest-selling album in UK chart history. The Manchester band sold 650,000 copies of their record in its first week of sales in 1997 though bookmakers are offering odds of just 4/5 that the French dance icons break that record.

This Week In Albums... There was only album anyone was really talking about wasn't there? Daft Punk's much anticipated fourth LP Random Access Memories was streamed early after it leaked on the internet allowing the world's media their chance to get in quick with their gut-check reactions. Our man Joe Wilde was a little more reflective in his assessments though, and found much to love about the French duo's comeback - even if hasn't ended up being the classic that so many people were hoping for. He wrote: "Guy-Manuel and Thomas are perfectionists in every sense, and whilst the album itself isn't a perfect listen, it is still a thoroughly rewarding and worthwhile one; and what more could we and the robots have asked for?"

There were some other much-vaunted French types releasing their comeback album this Spring too; it's a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it for Phoenix. Hoewever that means we once again get an LP of intelligent pop that's as catchy as it is inventive. Jim Pusey found it to be an enjoyable listen, although he felt it lacked something that its mainstream-breaking predecessor Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix had; he commented "There's much here to like, but it lacks some of the charm that made Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix quite so endearing."

The London based folk band Daughter have covered Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky,’ lending the French duo’s record breaking disco track a sultry, mellow number, with Elena’s distinctive laid-back vocals providing a neat counterpoint to Pharrell’s, from the original. The track was broadcast first on Saturday (April 27, 2013), a day before Daft Punk hit the number one spot with the track; hardly a surprise after it reached number there last week, after just 48 hours of being on sale.

Prior to the release of ‘Get Lucky,’ Daft Punk’s highest charting track had been ‘One More Time,’ which reached number two back in 2000. The track broke records on Spotify, too, where it broke the record for the highest number of plays in a single day, in the US and the UK. Previously the record had been held by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in the US and Bastille in the UK. In the official UK charts this week, Daft Punk knocked Rudimental off the top spot, down to number two, with Justin Bieber and Will.i.am’s collaboration at three.

It only took a week for the foot-tapping disco-revival track to climb to the top of the charts, with the single entring the chart at number three last wek despite only being available for little over 24-hours. During that 24-hour gap, Spotify announced that 'Get Lucky' had become the most streamed song in the UK and the US over a 24-hour period in the company's five-year history. The streaming service predicts that the band's comeback album, Random Access Memories, will mirror this anticipation and turn out to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, streams of the year when it is released on 20 May (UK).

Daft Punk’s highly awaited return has been a successful one, with their latest track ‘Get Lucky'; doing just that, in terms of Spotify plays. The online music streaming service have announced that the track broke the record for the highest number of plays in a day, both in the US and the UK. They would not, however, release the actual totals, so we’re left guessing as to the true scale of their popularity amongst the service’s users. In the US, the record was previously held by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ‘Thrift Shop’ and in the UK, Bastille’s song ‘Pompeii’ had taken the crown.

‘Get Lucky’ is the first song to be officially released from the French duo’s forthcoming album Random Access Memories – their first studio album in seven years, though they have released the Tron soundtrack and a live album in that time. It not only features superstar rapper and producer Pharrell Williams on vocals but also a guitar contribution from Chic legend Nile Rogers. Other collaborators on the album include electronic music pioneer Giorgio Moroder, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Todd Edwards and Panda Bear.

Random Access Memories is scheduled for release on May 21. The response to the single has been overwhelmingly positive, as reflected in the track’s popularity on Spotify’s online streaming service.

The French electronic duo Daft Punk set a record this week with their newest single “Get Lucky”.

The track, which was released as a teaser of the band’s upcoming album, Random Access Memories, due to be released on May 21st, had the biggest streaming day on music service Spotify last Friday, the company reports, although it wouldn’t give the exact number of streams. The previous holder of the record was Thrift Shop by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, which became an internet sensation earlier this year.

Daft Punk’s Get Lucky features rapper/producer Pharrell Williams and the album “Random Access Memories” will reportedly yield some additional exciting collaborations, including ones with including Strokes lead singer Julian Casablancas, Animal Collective’s Noah Lennox, Giorgio Moroder, Todd Edwards, DJ Falcon, Academy Award-winning musician Paul Williams and Chilly Gonzales. Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter have been busy performing and promoting the album ahead of its release, most recently playing a set at the infamous Coachella Music Festival. The official album release party is going to be held in a somewhat odd location though – an agricultural show in Wee Waa, Australia. Hey, we’re not questioning their methods, whatever they’re doing seems to be working out pretty well.

The world has gone Daft Punk crazy this week. Their track ‘Get Lucky,’ featuring Pharrell and Nile Rodgers was debuted online and it’s gone down pretty well with most DP fans and reviewers. The vocals are unmistakeably Pharrell’s. The guitar riff is unmistakeably Nile’s. ‘Get Lucky’ is a lighter approach to the dance floor than we’re used to from Daft Punk, though (perhaps we’re just not playing it loud enough) as the French duo seem to be taking a more light-footed approach to the dance-floor.

The Guardian describes the track as having “a sort of all-encompassing timelessness to it – the sort of song that could work in a club and at a wedding reception… Get Lucky eschews the crunching electronics of their last album and the vocoder-lead future-disco of Discovery in favour of lithe "funk grooves" (apologies) that seem to have been transported directly from an underlit 70s dancefloor.” Channeling the essence of 70s disco, ‘Get Lucky’ is heavily indebted to Nile Rodgers’ contribution, though Pharrell’s vocal gives it a modern edge.

The track has been officially released on iTunes, ahead of their cleverly-marketed album, Random Access Memories, which is scheduled for release on May 20, 2013. The duo have drafted in even more collaborators for the rest of the album, NME reports, including Giorgio Moroder, Panda Bear, Chilly Gonzales and Todd Edwards.

Coachella is pretty much in full swing now and one of the headlining acts this year is the French indie rock band Phoenix.

The Grammy award-winning band were joined onstage by none other than R&B singer R Kelly. Unfortunately, the rumors that Phoenix would perform with electro duo Daft Punk didn’t prove true, but there was still a lot to enjoy in their set. The Californian festival stage saw the band perform some of their older music, as well as new songs, which will be featured on their upcoming album, “Bankrupt”, due for release on April 22nd. The tracks, "Entertainment" and "The Real Thing" were instant hits, but the band also played some old favorites, including "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix", such as "Lisztomania" and "Fences".

R Kelly’s appearance was the surprise of the show, especially since the crowd was expecting a collaboration with Daft Punk. The rapper performed a mashup of his “Ignition” with Phoenix’s “1901”. This is the band’s first time headlining Coachella, after they appeared at the festival twice before. "Our vision of Coachella is that you can never be medium. It's either fantastic or a big catastrophe, we don't like medium things. For us, it's always been an extreme experience. The first time we played was our worst show ever, and the second time was one of our best shows ever, it's either a huge failure or success," Mazzalai told Reuters ahead of the band's set.

Daft Punk will finally be premiering their newest, highly anticipated album, Random Access Memories.

We bet you never would have guessed that they’d do it at the Wee Waa Agricultural Show though. That’s in New South Wales. That’s in Australia, if you were wondering. Random couldn’t be more appropriate. The official release date for the album is May 21st, but on the 17th Wee Waa will host a playback of the record for the global launch party. With just 4000 tickets going on sale on the Crossing Theatre website, the event will be pretty exclusive. Well, so we assume.

The tickets will go on sale on April 12th and members of the Wee Waa Show Society will have guaranteed tickets. Additionally, for the ticket price, the lucky fans will also have the opportunity to enjoy "typical Australian country show entertainment, including the pet show, dog high jump, showgirl competition, cross cut saw competition, fireworks and much more," per the event site. It does sound very tempting.

Daft Punk announced official details of their long-awaited comeback album over the weekend, and with the knowledge that Chic founder and legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers was on it, the press were keen to get his thoughts on the creative process that had gone with the French duo on LP Random Access Memories.

The Guardian reports that Daft Punk launched a new website at the weekend which revealed the album artwork, the title and the release date – May 20^th. Exciting stuff! The pair haven’t released an LP since 2005’s Human After All, but as one of the most influential dance acts of the last 20 years, anticipation for them to return has been fierce. If Nile Rodgers is to be taken at his word – and he’s a pretty reliable fellow – then the wait is going to be well worth it. "About a year ago, I get a knock on the door – first a virtual one and then a real knock – from Guy-Manuel and Thomas” he told Rolling Stone magazine, continuing, “The collaboration felt so unbelievably natural that it made me realise that I need to be in the studio with people. I love partnering with people. And then from that moment, a windfall of recording started happening. I just started going in with whomever I could."

Daft Punk are back! Possibly? The mysterious French electro act, who have been dormant album-wise since 2005’s Only Human, appeared out of the blue during an advert break for Saturday Night Live at the weekend, fueling speculation that the duo were previewing new material from their alleged new album.

Daft Punk’s canon may be limited – three albums between 1997 and 2005 – but their influence on dance music cannot be done justice with words, the group’s futuristic house sounds that appeared on the 1997’s Home influencing a huge number of movements within electronic music for the next decade and beyond. Amid reports they're returning in 2013, a short, 15 second clip featuring nothing than the iconic Daft Punk logo and the pair’s famous headwear appeared in the middle of the SNL broadcast, with a short, funky loop playing in the background. Was this new music? And if so what does it mean? Will it be on the new album, supposedly out in May? What about the direction it could mean for them? The clip is certainly less dancefloor driven than some of their previous material, though there’s plenty of energy in its bouncy motif.

One thing that does seem apparently confirmed from it, is that Chic’s legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers might well have played the hook on it, the axe-man re-tweeting several people who’d suggested that it was in fact him. So when can we expect a more thorough preview of the new album? We know they signed a deal with Columbia Records in January, but is all this just setting more questions up about the pair? Most likely yes.

Daft Punk are back at last, with their first studio album in eight years due to be released in May 2013. The French electronic dance duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have signed a new recording deal with the Sony-owned Columbia label, according to The Guardian. This will be the fourth studio album from Daft Punk. Their last, Human After All was released in 2005, though they also created the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy in 2010.

So far, the details of the fourth album are limited but one thing seems to be certain: anyone expecting to see Daft Punk touring in support of the album is likely to be disappointed. There were rumors flying around that they would headline one of the days at Coachella. That proved unfounded, with the Coachella line-up now announced and not including the French dance act. BBC Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank – who also curates Bestival on the Isle of Wight – has revealed that he was told Daft Punk would not be touring in 2013. The last time they played the UK was in 2007, at the Wireless festival.

What is known about Daft Punk’s movements in this lengthy gap between releases is that they have been collaborating with the likes of Chic’s Nile Rogers, Feist collaborator Chilly Gonzales and Animal Collective’s Panda Bear. They’re also said to have been working with the legendary disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder, though it’s unclear how much of the material they’ve worked on over the last few years will actually make it onto the 2013 album release. Mystery may shroud this Daft Punk release but word of its arrival is still bug news for Daft Punk fans. The wait is finally over.
