The cast of Star Wars have been paying tribute to co-star Carrie Fisher who passed away on Tuesday, four days after suffering a heart attack on a flight home from London.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Daisy Ridley has signed on to star in Sony’s upcoming Peter Rabbit film. Alongside Ridley, the film will feature James Corden as the voice of Beatrix Potter’s mischievous rabbit.

Variety reports that the 24-year-old will star in the first film adaptation Patrick Ness’ Chaos Walking series, which focuses on a dystopian world where people can hear each other's thoughts.

Star Wars heroine Daisy Ridley has temporarily quit Instagram after being on the receiving end of a backlash regarding comments on gun violence.

The trolling started on Sunday (July 31st) when Ridley attended the Teen Choice Awards, and shared her thoughts on gun violence after a tribute to the victims of gun violence was staged at the ceremony.

The 24 year old star wrote to her 2.3 million followers: “As I sat in the audience yesterday tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence. I didn’t get a great picture of the incredible group that came on stage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must #stoptheviolence.”

Toy manufacturer Hasbro has backed down in the face of Star Wars fans outraged that Rey, the young female lead in The Force Awakens, was missing from their new edition of 'Star Wars Monopoly'.

The special Star Wars tie-in edition of the popular board game included four player tokens, which included Finn (John Boyega), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, but Daisy Ridley’s tenacious heroine Rey was missing from the set, which left a lot of fans mystified.

John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, the young stars of the new Star Wars movie, are included on the annual Forbes list ’30 Under 30’, alongside fellow Brit Emilia Clarke from ‘Game of Thrones’.

The stars are included in a list of more than 600 of the world’s youngest talents, in categories ranging from entertainment and music to games and technology, and the feature was cut down from an initial list of more than 15,000 names. It’s the fifth consecutive year that the list has been published, and was released on Monday (January 4th).

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was still pulling in big audiences at theatres over the Christmas weekend and has now passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office. The film is now the fastest ever to reach $1 billion worldwide, doing so in just 12 days.

Previous record holder Jurassic World took 13 days to reach $1 billion globally when it smashed records earlier this year. In the US, The Force Awakens racked up $153.5 million at the festive box office, bringing its US total so far to over $544.5 million.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just missed out on setting the world record for a box-office opening by $7.9 million, according to early estimates. Although the film smashed records around the globe it’s $517m worldwide box office gross puts it second to Jurassic World’s $524.9m record, achieved earlier this year.

The Force Awakens suffered a disadvantage as studio Disney had failed to score a timely release for the film in China. Back in June, Jurassic World arrived on US and Chinese screens over the same weekend, bringing up it’s opening weekend gross.

Daisy Ridley has mainly appeared in TV series, while John Boyega won awards for his first film role in Attack the Block (2011). But of course all of that changes this weekend.

Both have spoken about the lengthy Star Wars audition process. "Luckily for me J.J. Abrams was searching as far and wide as possible to cast the role," says Ridley, who plays scavenger-turned-hero Rey. "I thought I'd ruined the first few auditions, but he saw some potential I guess and I was allowed to come back and read again. From when I started auditioning two years ago until now it has been like a rollercoaster."

With the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens just weeks away, Carrie Fisher, aka Princess Leia, is getting reflective on her character’s history and how much things have changed since she first appeared on screen in 1977. But while Fisher might not agree with Leia ‘slave’ action figures being banned, she does admit that at times her character was too much of a damsel in distress in the original trilogy.

“I would have liked that lightsaber moment, very much yes. But there was no precedent (at the time),” Fisher told the New York Daily News when asked about Leia’s lack of heroic moment in the original films.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director Jj Abrams stopped by ‘The Howard Stern Show’ on Monday to talk about the much anticipated sequel. Speaking to the shock-jock, Abrams discussed criticisms over the casting of black actor John Boyega as a Stormtrooper, while also revealing why fans haven't seen Luke Skywalker in any of the film’s trailers yet.

Discussing those who have criticised the film for casting Boyega as a black stormtrooper, Abrams said: 'All I know is John Boyega is extraordinary in the new movie. I think the people who are complaining about that probably have bigger problems than there's a black stormtrooper.’

Since George Lucas announced his retirement from the franchise, there's been all sorts of speculation about what differences could be expected from an updated sequel: though it's difficult to tell from the less than one and a half minute trailer. Everyone seems to be in a rush (especially, in a comical fashion, R2D2) and there's some brand new faces, who all look a little nervous as a voiceover booms out: 'There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side and the light.'

Alongside original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker, Star Wars Episode VII will add seven new faces to the franchise. John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow have all been announced as joining the Star Wars cast, but sadly that’s where news ends as we don’t yet know who any of these actors will be playing. So armed with a leaked casting call list, lets try and work out who might be playing who in Episode VII.

'Girls' actor Adam Driver was one of the early names we’d pretty much pegged as a definite for the Episode VII cast. As of now the general consensus seems to be that Driver will be having a villainous turn in Episode VII. More specifically his character is thought to be an intelligent and scheming Sith. Thirty year old Driver could fit the decryption of either the confident late twenty something male that producers were looking for, or the intellectual thirtysomething. Then there’s Oscar Issac, the 35 year old actor best known for Inside Llewyn Davis, was the last and ultimately correct casting rumour. Character actor Oscar is one who has definitely got us stumped, really he could turn his hand to any type of character, wether it be hero or villain. It will surely be interesting to see which role Issac is eventually announced in.
