Queen Of The Desert Trailer

Gertrude Bell was a formidably intelligent British woman from the late 19th century whose travels through expansive deserts in the Middle East helped establish modern society in countries such as Iraq and Jordan, and importantly cast an enormous amount of respect on women everywhere. She didn't care for behaving like British society expected women to behave, and she proved that she could be just as skilled in the likes of cartography, archeology and politics and refused to be treated any differently than her male peers. Even when she was threatened and accused of being a spy, she never backed down and her resilience and care towards Arabic peoples have left their mark in history.

If fans of ‘Top Gear’ were expecting to see a whole string of new celebrity guests when the revamped series premieres on Sunday, they may be left disappointed. Damian LewisDamian Lewis is taking another lap on ‘Top Gear’.

The newspaper reports that ‘Homeland’ star Damian Lewis and blues musician Seasick Steve filmed their guest slots at the warehouse studio in Surrey yesterday. But both have already appeared on the show in 2013 and 2010, respectively.

Our Kind Of Traitor Review

Excellent

John le Carre's novel is adapted with plenty of inventive style into a remarkably personal thriller, packed with thrills that find suspense in the characters and their predicament rather than pushy movie cliches. It's so sleek and involving that it's easy to ignore the nagging plot holes. We're too busy imagining what we might do in the same situations.

It opens in Marrakech, where poetry professor Perry (Ewan McGregor) and his lawyer wife Gail (Naomie Harris) have gone in an attempt to save their troubled marriage. One evening in a bar, Perry meets the boisterous Dima (Stellan Skarsgard), a Russian who openly admits that he launders money for the mafia. And he asks for Perry's help in delivering information to British intelligence in exchange for his family's safety. Back in London, Perry meets MI6 agent Hector (Damian Lewis), who sees this data as vital to bring down corrupt British politicians. But he has to go rogue to continue on the case, drafting Perry and Gail in to help. Soon they're travelling to France and Switzerland in a dangerous game that puts them in the crosshairs of both a Russian mafia boss (Grigoriy Dobrigyn) and a shifty British MP (Jeremy Northam).

The key point here is that Perry and Gail get involved because they are trying to help Dima's family. This makes everything that happens unusually down-to-earth, with a plot that hinges on the safety of a wife and children rather than the fate of the world. Actually, it's the state of the world that's the villain here, as corrupt Western politicians accept huge money to sidestep the rule of law. Screenwriter Hossein Amini is terrific at keeping the film's focus on the people rather than the plot machinery. And director Susanna White fills the screen with classy touches that are gorgeously shot and edited. The action sequences are unusually clever, avoiding cliches for something more deeply involving (a big shootout is particularly imaginative).

Damian Lewis Slams Boris Johnson For Letting London Become Dominated By "Ultra-Rich"

Damian Lewis

Damian Lewis has blasted the outgoing Mayor of London Boris Johnson for letting the English capital become ruined by investors and reneging on an old election promise not to let the city become “Dubai-on-Thames”.

The ‘Homeland’ actor, 45, described himself as a “proud Londoner” and said that it would be disappointing if London were to become effectively ruled by the ultra-rich, as it is in his new movie Our Kind of Traitor. Speaking at its red carpet premiere on Thursday (May 5th), he told reporters that the vision set out in the movie was sadly prescient.

Our Kind Of Traitor Trailer

Professor (Perry) Makepiece and his partner Gail are enjoying an evening on in the bar whilst on holiday in Marrakech. A lavish gentleman also in the bar catches Perry's eye and the man eventually walks over and asks the couple to join them for a drink. Accepting the offer, the two are taken in by the man and his excessive spending. The man, Dima, has a foreign accent and extends an invitation to the couple for them to join Dima and his friends for a party at his villa.

Accepting the offer, Perry and Gail arrive at Dima's house to find it's not the small gathering they were expecting. Taken in by Dima's friendly persona, Perry and Dima talk and Dima eventually reveals his motives to Perry for inviting the Brit over. Dima wants Perry to take a USB to MI6 with a message - Dima explains that he's actually a money launderer for the Russian mob and wishes for asylum for him and his family in exchange for information on the highest ranking members of the Russian mob and their international affiliates.

Perry must weigh up all the risks involved and decide just how much he's willing to risk in order to help Dima.

Homeland Season 3 Episode 6: Still Positive

Claire Danes Mandy Patinkin Rupert Friend Damian Lewis Morena Baccarin

It's taken six episodes but finally Homeland is back on its feet and back to its old ways, sending blistering plot twists, confusing u-turns and stunning revelations our way. Last night's episode in the UK, 'Still Positive,' saw Saul at an all-time low, Javadi's true ways exposed and Carrie turn the tables on her abduction.

The acting director of the CIA was still reeling after last episode's revelation that the gung-ho Senator Lockhart was in line for the permanent CIA role despite weeks of praise for keeping the organisation steady after the Langley bombing. He also resigned himself to accepting that his wife was still seeing the lover that she met in India. Another man may have stormed out or shouted; Saul had bigger fish to fry as Majid "The Magician" Javadi had captured undercover agent Carrie.

The fourth episode of hit CIA drama, Homeland, aired last night in the UK and showed many fans that the series still had the intelligence and ability to surprise us. David Nevins, President of entertainment on Showtime, said in the statement, “Homeland continues to prove its strength for Showtime, and is one of television’s most exciting, provocative and widely-discussed shows. It has grown its audience significantly in each of its three seasons. The critical and audience reaction to Masters of Sex since its great launch has been incredibly gratifying. It’s a privilege to get to work with such talented and creative people as Alex Gansa and Michelle Ashford, as well as their tremendous casts. They have each created truly original shows, with distinctive voices that are among the most admired series on television.”

'Romeo And Juliet' Released: Worth The Reboot?

Douglas Booth Hailee Steinfeld Julian Fellowes Damian Lewis

The news that there was a planned new Romeo and Juliet movie was initially akin to learning that there was a new Dracula in the works, sparking cries of "Another one?", "Again?" Rightly so; Baz Luhrmann's 1996 memorable adaptation of William Shakespeare's 16th century tragedy certainly set the precedent for sexing up the Bard to bring the iambic pentameter to a generation of short attention spans.

Douglas Booth as Romeo and Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet in Romeo And JulietDouglas Both as Romeo and Hailee Steinfeld as Juliet in Romeo And Juliet

It’s been a while since anyone’s attempted to pull off a film adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic doomed love story Romeo & Juliet. We suspect it’s because Baz Luhrmann did such a bang up job of it back in the 90’s that many have been simply too terrified to try and better it. However, with Douglas Booth and Paul Giamatti among the stars, director Carlo Carlei is probably confident that his 2013 version of the ancient play has the chops to do the original script justice especially with the Oscar winning 'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes adapting the screenplay.

Featuring the welcome voice of Zola Jesus on the backing soundtrack, the extended trailer for Carlei’s work has been revealed and apart from revealing that almost all the young actors in it are impossibly pretty, it also has a touch of a gothic feel about it, with dark shades adorning most of the clips shown and the infamous masked ball focused on as the first place the pair meet. 'Gossip Girl' star Ed Westwick also makes an appearance in the movie as the vengeful cousin of Juliet, Tybalt in his first role since leaving the show.

Homeland's Damian Lewis Awarded The Freedom Of The City Of London

Damian Lewis

Homeland star Damian Lewis has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London in recognition of his acting achievements.

Now an Emmy or a Golden Globe is certainly a big deal, but the Freedom of the City is nothing to scoff at either, and Lewis certainly accepted it accordingly. The actor was glowing with happiness when he accepted the plaque at the Guildhall at the heart of the British capital (a city within a city in a country within a country, there’s a fun fact for you). He attended the ceremony, accompanied by his wife, actress Helen McCoy and his brother Gareth Lewis.

Before the ceremony, Lewis expressed his gratitude in a speech, explaining how happy he was to be honoured by the city, where he was born and raised and later attended the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Lewis expressed his gratitude.

Homeland's Finale: Potential Risks And Rewards

Damian Lewis Claire Danes Mandy Patinkin

As the second season of Homeland is about to draw to a close, the suspense has gripped a nation of avid fans. And, while everyone is on tenterhooks for the the outcome of the season, some are questioning whether it has retained the kind of calibre and complexity that made the first season such an enormous critical and commercial success.

Starting with success that doesn't so much grow as explode, means that subsequent seasons need to keep to that kind of standard. The Guardian certainly things that season two leaves much to be desired saying that the "once-intelligent show has undergone a strange transformation: morphing, Hulk-style, into a more brash, straightforward action thriller that just happens to have some politics involved." Adding that "After 10 episodes, Homeland has lost all sense of reality."

But, as WBIR argues, "Homeland risks much each week, and part of what it's risking Sunday is disappointment, from those who don't feel they're getting all the answers they want and those who don't like the answers they get." Indeed, that kind of suspense, those risks that it takes every week are precisely what has made it such a success, the nail biting, heart racing suspense that pervades every Sunday night that it airs is a prime reason, along with fantastic performances, writing and directing for its success and subsequent rewards.

Idris Elba, Damian Lewis's Odds Slashed To Become Next James Bond

Idris Elba Daniel Craig Sam Worthington Damian Lewis

The bookmakers have responded to Naomie Harris' claims that close friend Idris Elba has already met with Barbara Broccoli regarding becoming the next James Bond, after Daniel Craig - who currently stars in Skyfall - brings his tenure to a close.

Speaking at the London premiere of the new 007 movie, Bond girl Harris told the Huffington Post, "I didn't realise that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond." Elba's superb turn as Stringer Bell on HBO's 'The Wire' as well as his role as the maverick cop Luther has garnered Elba plenty of attention of both sides of the Atlantic. The London-born actor has plenty of things going for him, most notably that he's very, very cool. He briefly commented on the speculation last year, telling NPR, "It's a rumor. I just don't want to be the black James Bond. Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond, and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond." It's a fair point; though we're guessing Elba would be more than qualified to land the role on merit, too. Bookmaker William Hill has cautiously slashed his odds of becoming the next Bond to 9/2 (he was hardly in the Top 20 contenders this time last week), though now make Damian Lewis the outright favourite at 3/1. Though it's not clear why the Homeland actor is the frontrunner, he's another intriguing possibility.

Though Elba would be our pick, we'd suggest sticking all the money you have on Sam Worthington

David Nevins On Homeland And Season 3

Claire Danes Damian Lewis

Homeland, starring Clare Danes and Damian Lewis, won six Emmys and enjoyed an increase in viewers because of it, now the show has been awarded a third season after Showtime ordered its renewal. Network chief David Nevins has been talking to The Hollywood Reporter.

"There wasn't a lot of suspense in the decision," explained Nevins on the news of a third season. "The evidence seems to be that more and more people are coming to the show." The Oct. 21 record high of 1.75 million, a 25 percent boost in cumulative viewership and 1.1 million new subscribers this year could be the statistics he was alluding to. I think they've shown a willingness to make big story moves from the very beginning," he said of Sunday's episode. "They've avoided the long tease that I think the audience has sort of come to expect. It's very hard to figure out Homeland's rhythm, and that makes it exciting to watch."

The news that many of the writers will remain the same will come as a relief to some of the show’s most ardent fans. "I think the core of the writing staff will return," he said. "Change is inevitable in television, so you can't fear it, and it would probably get boring if we kept it the same group year after year."

Showtime Want Third Season Of 'Homeland'

Claire Danes Damian Lewis

Homeland season 2 has done so well, Showtime has ordered a third series of the terrorism drama, USA Today reports. It's no surprise, given the success of the show at The Emmys.

Homeland, which firmly stakes its place within the drama category, has been a great success, which manifested itself with the best drama award at The Emmys, alongside acting awards for the show's biggest stars, Claire Danes and Damian Lewis. The Second season began Sept. 30 and was up 60% from its series debut. Across all platforms "Homeland" drew 5.2 million viewers for the episode. Sunday's 10 p.m. episode - the fourth of the season - drew 1.7 million viewers, the highest in series history for an initial telecast. "The writers, cast and crew of Homeland continue to create a remarkably entertaining and suspenseful roller coaster ride," said David Nevins, president of entertainment for Showtime. "We can't wait for our viewers to experience what unfolds through the rest of season two." We can't, either.

It seems to be TV renewal week, with Fox ordering a third season of the singing competition, The X-Factor, and Arrow - the superhero series - being picked up for a full season after only two episodes on CW. The network also ordered three more scripts from Beauty and the Beast and Emily Owens, M.D., their two other freshman series.

Homeland Series 2 Aims To Build On Emmy Success

Claire Danes Damian Lewis

The second series of Homeland hits our screens on Sunday (September 30th) and the stars of the show, fresh from their success at this year’s Emmy Awards, have promised that it will carry on delivering pulse-quickening drama.

The show walked away from this years Emmy Awards with its head held high, clutching the awards for Best Actress for Claire Danes, Best Actor for Damian Lewis, Best Writing in a Drama Series for the show’s creators and chief writers Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa and Gideon Raff as well as the night's biggest win for Best Drama Series, and now it looks to take this success and run with it. After his win, Damian told Huffington Post that although this series will maintain it’s character driven story devices, the new series will be much more high paced, and promised, “it will surprise people how accelerated it is.”

Hoping to keep the plot of the next season as much of a secret as possible, the writers and producers have revealed very little about what we can expect from series two of the show, although we do know a little about what will happen from how series one ended. With Brody (Lewis) now a congressman and Jess (Morena Baccarin), his devoted, supportive wife still by his side, Carrie (Danes) faces a race against time as she tries to re-associate herself with the CIA whilst recovering from her electroconvulsive therapy treatments. The new series will also have a new regular in it’s ranks in the shape of Abu Nazir ( Navid Negahban) who still poses a massive threat to the US.

"Mandy Patinkin, Holla" Goes Viral After Claire Danes' Bizarre Emmy Acceptance Speech

Mandy Patinkin Claire Danes Damian Lewis

Mandy Patinkin was the toast of the town last night (September 23rd) when he, alongside the rest of the Homeland cast won big at the Emmy Awards 2012. The Showtime program won four of the five categories it was nominated in, including Outstanding Drama Series. Patinkin didn't win any individual honours, but it was ensured that he more than any of the others was talked about on the internet last night after his co-star Clare Danes opted to give him his own unique shout out among the list of people she thanked upon winning the Outstanding Leading Actress in a Drama category.

The Associated Press reports that as Danes went through the names, she stopped specifically at Patinkin and called out "Mandy Patinkin, holla". Twitter erupted with delight at the unorthodox way of thanking her co-star, with several sights demanding that the saying became a new internet meme. Oh goody. Gawker wrote: "'Mandy Patinkin, holla' is the new Angelina Jolie's leg," whilst New York Magazine's Vulture account said: "'Mandy Patinkin, holla' is the best thank-you ever." NPR's twitter meanwhile said: "If the Internet doesn't remix 'Mandy Patinkin, holla' by tomorrow morning, it is a failure."

The other two awards that Homeland took home were for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series, which went to Damian Lewis with the writing team taking the Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
