Katherine Jenkins may have been added to the list of stars competing on the forthcoming season of Dancing With The Stars but will the show's American audience know who she is? The record-breaking opera singer did sing on the show last year but she is still yet to 'crack' the American audience.
UK recording stars can often find it hard to break America, due to the sheer size of the territory and the fact that radio networks can vary wildly from region to region. It won't have helped, of course, that Katherine was absent from the cast announcement on Good Morning America yesterday (February 28, 2012). She did explain the absence, according to the Huffington Post, as she was attempting to attend a scheduled performance in Afghanistan, to entertain UK troops. However, she failed to make that particular engagement as well, announcing via her Twitter feed "Sadly we tried again (to get to Afghanistan) but its not going to happen. So sorry not to make it out to you but we really Really tried!" The British singing sensation will have to really dance her socks off if she wants to win over the hearts of the show's American viewers.
Jenkins faces competition from the tennis star Martina Navratilova, who has had years of practice when it comes to nimble footwork. And Jaleel White, of course, has already created a dance phenomenon in the past (The Urkel Dance), when he played the role of Steve Urkel in Family Matters. The soul singer Gladys Knight is also lined up to appear on the show; with so many national treasures competing against her, Katherine will have to put up a strong performance if she wants to stay on the show.
