Why Is Jack Reacher The Most Complained About Film Of 2013?

Tom Cruise Daniel Radcliffe

According to figures released by the British Board Of Film Classification (BBFC), the Tom Cruise action thriller Jack Reacher was 2013’s most complained about film. Based on a series of novels by British author Jim Grant, the film follows the actions of the protagonist who gives the film its namesake in a quest to solve a series of violent and murky crimes using methods that themselves often delve into law-breaking. Naturally in a contemporary Hollywood action thriller you would expect a continuous torrent of violence, explosions and careless destruction but it seems that a rare example of leniency by a traditionally conservative and uptight BBFC has led to a number of complaints by cinemagoers.

Tom Cruise At Edge Of Tomorrow Premiere
Violence meted out by the film's protagonist, played by Cruise, has drawn criticism from filmgoers.

A total of 26 complaints were received by the classification board which decried the 12A film certificate- meaning children under 12 be accompanied by an adult, as misjudged. The complaints remain, despite the fact that the BBFC revealed it demanded two cuts within the film to achieve the 12A rating. The board’s own website describes these cuts as “a woman being suffocated by a man and a man being hit over the head with a rock.” Yet filmgoers still felt unsettled enough by the remaining violent scenes to lodge 26 formal complaints.

Daniel Radcliffe Juno Temple

Daniel Radcliffe has been working off his Harry Potter weight with great success over the past few years. Is JK Rowling's Pottermore Update Hinting That More 'Harry Potter' Stories Are On The Way?

Jk Rowling Daniel Radcliffe

The buzz over J.K. Rowling’s latest Harry Potter offering is showing no signs of dying down. The 1,500 word story, published on the author’s Pottermore site, was a simple news style piece written in the voice of journalist Rita Skeeter. But it gave us the first update, since the Deathly Hallows epilogue as to what Harry and his friends have been up to. It’s all left us wondering, are there more Harry Potter offerings to come, or is J.K. Rowling really just teasing us?

JK RowlingJ.K. Rowling offered fans an update on Harry and the gang on her Pottermore site

If J.K. Rowling just wanted to assure us that Harry, Ron, Hermione and even Neville had all grown up okay she could have easily done that. She could have written a kind of ‘nothing to see here’ style piece, which reassured us and satisfied our appetite for all things Potter, without leaving too many doors opened. But instead, the Daily Prophet article that Rowling posted only left us asking even more questions and threw up endless new possibilities for the members of Dumbledore’s army.

Seven years on from the final Harry Potter book, Jk Rowling has treated fans to a brand new short story about everyone’s favourite wizard on her website, Pottermore. So what did we learn about Harry and the gang after reading Rowling’s latest writings?

J.K. Rowling Reassures Daniel Radcliffe That There’ll Be No More Potter Films, Probably

Jk Rowling Daniel Radcliffe

J.K Rowling's Pottermore addition last week, introducing fans to thirty-something Harry Potter and chums, may have been met with clamorous excitement by fans but gave one actor a sinking feeling. Daniel Radcliffe, who made his name as the titular boy wizard, saw Rowling's new chapter as forewarning that he'd need to reprise his fantasy role for another movie.

Apparently Radcliffe's fears were assuaged by the British author, who sent the actor a text reassuring him that she won't be writing any more film featuring Harry, ergo there'll be no more Potter films, probably.

Rowling sent her fans dizzy with excitement when she posted a new chapter set 16 years after Voldemort's defeat. Written in the style of a tabloid article penned by busy-body Rita Skeeter, the 1500-word story featured Harry, Ron and Hermione aged 34 Quidditch World Cup Final in the Patagonian Desert.

Unless Rowling Is Pulling A Beyonce, Another HP Film Is (Thankfully) Off The Cards

Jk Rowling Daniel Radcliffe

Following J. K. Rowling’s announcement of a brand new Harry Potter short story, fans (who are now sane, rational adult humans, for the most part) went by-and-large crazy over the possibilities. Could there be a new book coming? What about a new movie? Maybe Hogwarts really is there to welcome Potterheads home, but it won't be with another HP book or film.

J. K. Rowling
Jo Rowling isn't willing to mess with a good thing.

The first person the media went to in the frenzy was Daniel Radcliffe, who is not really open to returning to the franchise, unless Rowling is actually working on something movie-worthy. In the past, the author has indicated that she wouldn't be writing any more books about Harry, and a spokesperson reiterated as much to the Bookseller on Tuesday. But the Harry Potter universe is a vast and profitable place and Rowling has a whole world of short stories, spin-offs and expansions to choose from. Potter fans (this writer included) tend to eat up any new writing by Rowling, let alone things related to the boy wizard.

What's In Store For Daniel Radcliffe?

Daniel Radcliffe

We’ll admit, we were a little worried that Daniel Radcliffe would never be able to shake off Harry Potter. He’s a great actor (and they’re great movies) but when you grow playing such a famous role it can be hard to differentiate between actor and character.

Even Radcliffe himself was worried that he would never be able to move his career forward once the movies finished: “It was not making me as happy as I want it to. What if they are all going to be right and will be laughing and I will be consigned to a bunch of ‘Where are they now?’ lists?” he explained.

Wallace has just about giving up on finding love and relationships. He's dropped out of medical school and seems quite happy to spend all of his time at home, barely venturing out of the apartment he shares with his promiscuous roommate Allen. When he is persuaded to attend a party, however, he meets Chantry; a girl determined to be friends with Wallace. While Wallace is rather taken by her initially, he is disappointed that she has a boyfriend but willing to make their special friendship work. Everyone around them is sceptical about their platonic relationship despite their insistence that men and women can indeed be just friends. Though the more they try and insist they are not falling in love, the less convinced they are making themselves. Feeling confused and guilty, Wallace and Chantry must look deep within themselves to puzzle out the meaning of their chemistry.

'What If' was originally named ‘The F Word’ and is a rom-com based on the  T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi play 'Toothpaste and Cigars'. It has been directed by Michael Dowse ('Goon', 'Take Me Home Tonight', 'It's All Gone Pete Tong') and written by Elan Mastai ('Alone in the Dark', 'Fury', 'Sk8 Life'), and it has already won two awards with a further four nominations.

What To Expect From 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them'

We have to admit, when J.K. Rowling ended the Harry Potter series with no room to ever revive the characters, we were pretty devastated. An entire lifetime of no more muggles and no more magic sounded too depressing to bear, so news that Rowling’s, sorry, Newt Scamander's 2001 book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to be made into a trilogy of films may just be the best thing we’ve ever heard.

What Would 'Harry Potter' Have Been Like With This Alternative Cast?

Ian McKellen Daniel Radcliffe Tilda Swinton Emma Thompson Hugh Grant Liam Aiken

There’s a generation out there who have been practically weened on Harry Potter. The books and the films have become a religion for devout fans of the series, but would it have been the same if different actors had been cast in the leading roles? You may be surprised to hear that before the perfect cast was set in stone, there were some strange alternate actors vying for the parts!

ian mckellen harry potter Ian McKellen turned down the role of Dumbledore

Sir. Ian McKellen was once thought in the running to play Hogwarts’ headmaster, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. He was, in fact, offered the role after original Dumbledore actor, Richard Harris, passed away just after filming the first Harry Potter film. However, Sir. Ian turned down the role, citing the reason that Richard Harris had once publicly declared what a dreadful actor he thought McKellen was! Eventually, Michael Gambon took on the role and the rest is Harry Potter history.

Kill Your Darlings Review

Very Good

Even though it's slightly too mannered, this true drama takes a clever approach to the beat poets long before they were famous. It's also packed with shocking twists and unnerving details that help us get emotionally involved in the story. And while the complexity of the approach kind of leaves us on the outside, sensitive performances help us see beneath the surface.

Set in 1943, the film centres on Allen Ginsburg (Radcliffe), who has been encouraged by his poet father (Cross) and needy mother (Leigh) to attend Columbia in New York. There he befriends the transgressive writer Lucien Carr (DeHaan), whose secret mentor-boyfriend David (Hall) is actually writing his coursework. Through Lucien, Allen is introduced to the druggy lifestyle of intense artist William Burroughs (Foster) and rugged womaniser Jack Kerouac (Huston). And together they decide to change the world. Then a shocking murder alters the dynamic between these young men.

The film's title is age-old advice to artists: you have to get rid of the people closest to you if you want to truly express yourself. And of course the fatal plot twist is an ironic exploration of this idea, as the film delves into shadowy corners of artistic anarchy, drug use and sexuality. (Radcliffe's notorious gay sex scene is strikingly well-played and pivotal in Allen's journey.) Filmmaker Kokidas infuses each scene with dark artistry: the actors look achingly cool even when they're wallowing in a trashy, immaculately production-designed drug den.

Jude Law As 'Henry V' Is (Probably) The Best Acting Performance Of 2013

Jude Law Judi Dench Daniel Radcliffe Ben Whishaw Sheridan Smith David Walliams Michael Grandage

The latest stage version of William Shakespeare's historic epic Henry V is currently playing to packed-out audiences at the Noel Coward Theatre on London's West End, with critics being particularly taken by lead man Jude Law, who portrays the embattled monarch in Michael Grandage's take on the show.

Jude Law
Jude Law is being roundly praised for his depiction of Henry V

The last instalment of the Michael Grandage Company’s season on the West End, it may also be the best too, thanks largely to the star performance from its lead performer. After a successful 15-month season, consisting of five plays each performed at the Noel Coward Theatre, Henry V marks the end of Grandage's triumphant run, but he couldn't have ended things on higher note. Whilst praise has been distributed to the direction and stage design for the show, it is Law's lead performance that has captured critics and audiences alike, as the Dom Hemingway actor continues his good run of form as a critically acclaimed acting talent.

Daniel Radcliffe Doesn't Need Adult Roles To Prove He's All Grown Up - He Just Is.

Daniel Radcliffe Jon Hamm

The general consensus on Daniel Radcliffe would appear to be thus: landed worldwide fame because he ‘looked’ like Harry Potter; trying to be taken more seriously by seeking out challenging roles. And while any actor would admit to luck playing a factor in their career, that general consensus is becoming widely unfounded.

Olympic greatness awaits for Daniel Radcliffe. Well not quite, but the next best thing: he’ll be playing British athletics legend in an upcoming biopic. One Direction really do have everything after all. In a recently compiled list by Heat Magazine, the boy were revealed as the highest earning entertainment stars under-30's in the UK, with a combined worth of almost £60 million. Individually, the boys would be placed just outside the top ten, however when their wealth is combined they come out on top by a narrow margin.

Last years top spot holder, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, was ousted by the combined earning power of the mega-successful boy band, who have an estimated worth of over £12 million each. The boys were included to the list as a joint entity because most of their earnings have been made as a group, rather than through independent ventures. Narrowly missing out on reclaiming his top spot for a third time, Radcliffe came in second this year with £56.19 million. Something tells us that the Kill Your Darlings actor isn't losing too much sleep over being ousted from the top spot.

Daniel Radcliffe Positive He Can Put Harry Potter Behind Him And Find Own Success

Daniel Radcliffe Harry Potter

Daniel Radcliffe will forever be associated with Harry Potter, that's a given and something he is more than aware of, but he by no means wants to sit back and rely on his HP fame to coast through the rest of his life. On the contrary, Radcliffe is determined to make a name for himself as an established and accomplished actor, and he already has a few roles lined up that could already cement his place as a Hollywood regular, rather than another disposable child actor.

The 24-year-old recently sat down with The New York Times for an interview, in which he detailed some of the impeccably thorough work he has put into honing his trade and separating himself from 'the boy who lived.' As the Harry Potter franchise continues to possess a strong, adoring fan base, and with Warner Brothers looking to expand the franchise with potentially two new films, Radcliffe has decided to put it all behind him and move on with his life and career.

Daniel Radcliffe Blames Gaunt Appearance On Demanding Work Schedule

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe has been spotted on a numer of occasions recently looking a little worse for wear. The Harry Potter actor was spotted in London this week looking gaunt and pale, bringing into question his current health and what might be causing him to look so unhealthy. It turns out, according to his publicist, that Daniel is looking worn out nowadays because he simply is worn out, with the actor really feeling the strain of his hectic workload.

Radcliffe currently stars in the West End production of The Cripple of Inishmaan, by play-write Martin McDonagh, and was spotted in London on Thursday July 18 looking uncomfortably pale and skinny - a far cry from his usually healthy look. To put our collective minds at ease, a rep for Radcliffe confirmed that his appearance is down to his role in the play, one that "is a very demanding... physically."

J.K. Rowling Published 'The Cuckoo's Calling' Under A "Liberating" Pseudonym

J.K. Rowling, author of the hugely popular Harry Potter series, admitted she had published a detective novel under the pseudonym 'Robert Galbraith'.  Her announcement was made on Sunday 14th July after a newspaper followed up on a hunch that the 'two' authors shared very similar writing styles. The novel, entitled The Cuckoo's Calling, was published in April of this year. Despite receiving critical acclaim the novel sold less than 500 copies.

One publishing house, Orion, has admitted their mistake in turning down the novel. The publishing director, Kate Mills, said Rowling's latest work was "perfectly decent, but quiet". She continued to say that it was "well written" but concerned that "it didn't stand out".  Mills claimed this is a serious problem when attempting to launch "new authors" in crime fiction when it is already "a very crowded market".

Harry Potter VS. James Bond? Daniel Radcliffe Wants To Be Bond Villain

Daniel Radcliffe Sam Mendes Daniel Craig Harry Potter James Bond

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe claims he is aware of his slight stature and said, as reported in The Sun, that he was "never going to be cast to play a Bruce Willis character in Die Hard".

Since completing the Harry Potter films Radcliffe has gone on to appear, most notably, in The Woman in Black and Sky's A Young Doctor's Notebook. He frequently does theatre work; his latest role in Michael Grandage's The Cripple of Inishmann has received favourable reviews.

At only 5'5 the actor says he is "not nearly strapping enough to play Bond" but would be a "much better villain". Should Radcliffe be considered for a Bond villain he would be following in the footsteps of such actors as Antony Dawson (Dr.No); Peter Lorre (as Le Chiffre in the original Casino Royale) and Gert Frobe (Goldfinger).

Is Daniel Radcliffe Going To Play Harry Potter's Dad?

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe has long insisted that he’s now done with Harry Potter; but a cameo playing his dad? That would be a different matter entirely. In the unlikely event that the author J.K Rowling opted to write a sequel to the existing books and films, Radcliffe commented “No more schoolboy stuff. A cameo as Harry’s dad? That would be perfect!”

Radcliffe was talking to Time Out magazine, and revealed that he did fancy being a father. “I definitely want to have kids,” the 23 year-old told the publication. “I’ve grown up around lots of people who were having kids when I knew them, because a lot of them were a lot older than me. And I saw the wonderful change in them.”

Continuing, he added “I see that it gives you a sense of purpose that up till now I only really get from work. I want that. I don’t know when or [with whom] but I want it. And I’d like to get started on it before my thirties. I like the idea of being a youngish parent. So I’ve got energy to play football even though they’ll be better than me by the time they’re four.” He also reckons that he’ll be a demanding parent, commenting: “I’m definitely going to be one of those parents who pushes their kids into things.”

Daniel Radcliff WOULD Return To Harry Potter… As His Father

Daniel Radcliffe

Exciting news for Harry Potter fans; Daniel Radcliffe has admitted that he would be interested in returning to the franchise, but with one little caveat: he’ll only make an appearance as Harry’s father.

Talking to British chat show host Graham Norton, Radcliffe replied to a question on a possible return, saying: “A cameo as Harry’s dad? That would be perfect!” Radcliff will probably be in a good position to play a father by the time that opportunity comes around. He’s very keen to add little Harrys to the world. “I definitely want to have kids,” he said in an interview with Time Out magazine. “I’ve grown up around lots of people who were having kids when I knew them, because a lot of them were a lot older than me. And I saw the wonderful change in them.” He added that he expects to be a demanding parent: “I’m definitely going to be one of those parents who pushes their kids into things.”

Having vowed to cut out the ‘schoolboy’ roles, Radcliffe has been taking on some particularly adult ones, like playing a gay poet Allen Ginsberg in new flick Kill your Darlings. “I was doing a gay sex scene and the director was giving step-by-step instructions…and the favourite note I have ever had was when we were kissing and the director shouted, “Not like that. Crazy sex kissing!"

Daniel Radcliffe Tackling Japan's Criminal Underworld In 'Tokyo Vice'

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe cannot be accused of playing it safe with his movie roles since wrapping up the Harry Potter movies. He's played a ghost hunting accountant in The Woman in Black, beat poet Allen Ginsbert in Kill Your Darlings and now, he's signed up to play an American journalist reporting on Japan's criminal underworld in Tokyo Vice.

The film, set to shoot in early 2014, will be directed by music video veteran Anthony Mandler, based on a script by JT Rodgers, which is in turn based on the memoirs of Jake Adelstein. The U.S. journalist worked as a crime reporter on the Yomiuri Shimbun, the largest newspaper in the world by circulation. He became the first westerner in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Press Club and went on to deliver a game-changing expose on a yakuza boss given a live transplant in California. "I had a number of people interested in adapting the book, but I was concerned what would happen if I didn't have some say in what happened to the screenplay. I would have issues if a lot of liberties were taken, as this is the story of my life," Adelstein told The Hollywood Reporter. The journalist appeared happy with Radcliffe's casting, "Daniel Radcliffe is 24, about the same age as I was when I began as a cub reporter. I think he's really maturing as an actor and will be great for the role," he said.

The actor has been further broadening his repertoire in recent months, shooting both the supernatural thriller Horns, with Juno Temple, and comedy-drama The F-Word.

Daniel Radcliffe Delivers Tearful Farewell To Richard Griffiths

Daniel Radcliffe Richard Griffiths

The Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe led a tearful farewell to his former co-star Richard Griffiths, who passed away last week. The Daily Express reports that the 23 year-old was sobbing as he paid tribute to Griffiths, aged 65. The portly Withnail and I star was buried in a 3 foot wide coffin and a number of well-known figures from the world of entertainment were present at the funeral to pay their respects.

In his speech, Daniel said that Griffiths made any room “twice as funny.” A mourner told the newspaper “Daniel was clearly very fond of Richard, as anyone who ever met him was, and was crying quite openly in church. It was a beautiful service and Richard would have been touched by how many people turned up to say goodbye… Richard was a tremendous character and the service was full of laughter and tears as his life was remembered with immense warmth and affection.”

A well-loved figure. Griffiths’ funeral was attended by the actors Nigel Havers, David Bradley and John Nettles. The comedian Jack Whitehall, also Richard’s godson, was also present, to say goodbye, at the church in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire. Griffiths’ former Withnail & I co-star Richard E Grant sent a vegetable wreath, as a nod to a scene in the film, according to the report.

Weirdest Casting Of The Year? Daniel Radcliffe To Play Igor In 'Frankenstein'

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe just needs to dot the i's and cross the t's before becoming the next Igor The Hunchback. Yep, you heard us correctly, the boy wizard himself who began his post-Potter movie career with The Lady In Black will play Igor in Fox's revisionist take on Mary Shelley's classic horror story, Frankenstein, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The movie is set to be directed by Gangster No.1 filmmaker Paul McGuigan and has a script by Chronicle scribe Max Landis. It's a strange casting for the clean cut Radcliffe, with Igor described as "pathologically dirty, with long hair and wearing old clown clothes." A circus theme runs through much of the new project, according to sources, and production is set to start in the UK late this summer. The last notable adaptation of Frankenstein came in 1994, when Kenneth Branagh directed the likes of Robert De Niro and Helena Bonham Carter.

Radcliffe recently made headlines for his role as poet Allen Ginsberg in the Sundance hit 'Kill Your Darlings.' Prior to that, he appeared in 'The Woman in Black' and starred on Broadway in the musical 'How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying' and in London's West End play 'Cripple of Inishmaan.' Later this year, he will appear in the fantasy film 'Horns' by director Alexandre Aja.

Oscars 2013: What The Hell Happened To Kristen Stewart? Twitter Reacts!

Kristen Stewart Daniel Radcliffe

When movie fans look back on this year's Academy Awards, Kristen Stewart may well be at the forefront of their minds. The Twilight actress, fresh from winning the Razzie for Worst Actress, appeared severely dishevelled while presenting an award with Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe.

Stewart, who was hardly out of the headlines last year after a well-documented cheating scandal, limped on-stage and muttered her lines. Stewart appeared distant and even failed to come in on-time to introduce the nominees - leaving Radcliffe looking pretty uncomfortable. Of course, the Twitter universe gave the actress a severe beating, with one user joking, "Kristen Stewart looks like one the chicks Liam Neeson leaves behind in Taken," and another saying, "A hobbling, disheveled Kristen Stewart is scarier than any vampire movie she's been in."

It's unclear exactly what happened to Stewart, though she seemingly wanted to be anywhere but the Oscars - watched by millions across the world. One Academy Award viewer said, "Kristen Stewart is limping because she sprained her ankle from being excessively disinterested." However, it was perhaps Heather Robinson who summed up the whole bizarre episode, "Why does Kristen Stewart always look like she's on crack," she said.
