The playwright died aged 90 yesterday.
Daniel Radcliffe has left a touching tribute to his friend Sir Peter Shaffer, after it's announced that the talented playwright has passed away at the age of 90 during a trip to Ireland. The actor made his West End debut in a revival of one of Shaffer's most acclaimed plays, 'Equus'.
Daniel Radcliffe will miss friend Peter Shaffer
The playwright died just weeks after celebrating his 90th birthday, according to a statement issued by his agent Rupert Lord. He passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning (June 6th 2016) while staying at a hospice in County Cork. 'He was simply at the end of his life but delighted to have been able to celebrate his 90th birthday with friends and then, I think, decided it was time', said Lord in his statement obtained by the Guardian.

Radcliffe took to Facebook to air his touching tribute. 'Peter Shaffer was and remains one of the UK's greatest playwrights', he wrote. 'He created challenging, moving and fantastically theatrical work and was also an incredibly kind, generous and funny man. In my career 'Equus' remains one of the most important and valuable things I've ever done in terms of how much I learnt from it. I will forever be grateful to him for trusting me to play the character of Alan Strang at a time when I had extremely limited experience on stage. I feel very privileged to have worked with him and will miss him.'
The 'Harry Potter' star appeared in the play when he was just 17-years-old and hit headlines over the fact that he had to fully strip off for the role. The play explores the psychology behind a mentally disturbed teenaged boy who blinds six horses.
Shaffer also wrote the plays 'Amadeus', 'Black Comedy', 'Lettice and Lovage', 'The Royal Hunt of the Sun' and 'Five Finger Exercise'.
