As one of the most iconic horror franchises in history, 'Halloween' fans were in for a treat earlier this year when it was revealed Danny McBride would be co-writing a new movie, set for release in 2018 and starring original actress, Jamie Lee Curtis. David Gordon Green will be serving as director, with Michael Myers once again serving as the central villain role.

Returning to her fan-favourite role of Laurie Strode, it's clear that her last appearance in the series ('Halloween: Resurrection') is something that will be wiped from the franchise, as the movie saw Laurie killed off.

Now, as 2018 inches ever closer, more information regarding the sequel has been coming out in bits and pieces, with fans now a little more aware of what they can expect when it hits the big screen.

Speaking with the Charleston City Paper, McBride said of the upcoming horror flick: "The original is all about tension. Laurie Strode doesn’t even know that Michael Myers exists until the last minutes of the movie. So much of it you’re in anticipation of what’s going to happen and the dread that Carpenter spins so effortlessly in that film... I think we were really trying to get it back to that. We’re trying to mine that dread. Mine that tension and not just go for gore and ultra-violence that you see some horror movies lean on. To us, it was all about bringing back the creep factor and trying to find the horror in your own backyard, in our own homes."

The past year has been a major one for horror, with this year's big screen adaptation of Stephen King's novel 'IT' breaking all sorts of records and raking it in big in the box office. 'Annabelle: Creation' also did incredibly well, bringing the 'Conjuring' combined universe's takings over $1 billion, proving that the horror genre has never been stronger than ever before.
