Dave Legeno, the British actor who played Fenrir Greyback in three Harry Potter movies, has been found dead in a remote part of California's Death Valley. The mixed martial arts fighter was found by hikers on Sunday and his body was recovered by helicopter.

According to the BBC, there were no signs of foul play and it is believed he died from the heat, a coroner's examination found. 

"It appears that Legeno died of heat-related issues, but the Inyo County coroner will determine the final cause of death," the Inyo County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Tributes to Legeno began pouring in shortly after news of the actor's death.

Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, said on Instagram: "He was a great talent with a heart of gold and always had time for anyone.

"Dave was a soft, kind gentleman off screen but had the skill to be the complete opposite on screen. He taught me lots."

Legeno's impressive credits list also included Snow White and the Huntsman, Batman Begins and Snatch. He had recently completed work on the action movie Sword of Vengeance before his death.

Summer temperatures in Death Valley are known to surpass 120 degrees. 

He is survived by a daughter.
