David Beckham is responsible for his daughter Harper's love of soccer.

The retired former England captain and his wife Victoria Beckham have

three sons, Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 13, Cruz, 10, and four-year-old girl Harper together and the fashion designer recently joked it felt like she'd had a ''dagger through the heart'' when Harper told her she wanted to ''play football'' rather than do dance or play dress up.

David has now confessed he is always encouraging his daughter to play the sport with him and teases Victoria by dressing their tot in football boots and sending her photos.

Discussing Harper's football dream in an interview with UK breakfast TV show 'Good Morning Britain', he said: ''It was the best thing I'd ever heard, I think. Obviously I've bought her football kits over the years as well and as soon as she comes down (wearing the football kits) and says, 'Mummy look,' you can imagine it's the same kind of reaction that she got when (Victoria) heard that she wanted to be a footballer. We were outside playing football the other day and she had a really pretty dress on and then a pair of pink football boots which I then sent Victoria the video, so again I think that was also a dagger in her heart but I love it, I love it!''

The 40-year-old sportsman admits Victoria, 41, has begged him not to encourage Harper to play soccer and let her mould their daughter into a girlie girl.

David says Harper has learnt one trick from her mother - she can run in high heels.

He added: ''Victoria is like, 'Please, we've got four children, three of them are boys and all love football. Please just let me have one that kind of wants to dress like me or wear high heels.' And actually Harper is amazing, she runs in the high heels so she's definitely got that from Victoria.''
