David Beckham is to receive an award for his charity work.

The 38-year-old soccer star will receive the Global Gift Philanthropist Award from Global Gift Gala honorary chair Eva Longoria at the Global Gift Gala at the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris on May 13 in recognition of his work with the Malaria No More UK Leadership Council, UNICEF and his role as patron for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Eva said; ''The Global Gift Gala Philanthropist Award recognises prominent figures who dedicate their time and energy to helping those in need. David has worked extensively with a number of charities and we are delighted to be able to honor his humanitarian work at this special event.''

The 2013 Global Gift Gala Paris will be hosted by Eva and event co-chairs Nikos Aliagas and founder of charitable organization The GREAT Initiative, Karen Ruimy.

All money raised at the event will benefit The Eva Longoria Foundation and The GREAT Initiative.

The Paris gala - which will feature a cocktail reception, entertainment, dinner, a live auction, special performances and tribute to award winners - will be the first in a series of events planned throughout the year.

Other Global Gift Galas taking place include Marbella on August 4, Los Angeles in September - with the exact date still to be confirmed - in London on November 23 and Punta Mita in Mexico on December 7.
