We focus on the British awards season this week with BRITs and BAFTAs celebrations as well as the arrival of Jimmy Fallon on 'The Tonight Show' and a most thrilling trailer drop for a certain superhero movie...
Miley Cyrus Bangerz Tour Controversy: Miley Cyrus has predictably upped the ante on her controversial media storm by making sure all eyes are on her during her currently touring Bangerz show. The concerts have been packed with the usual raunchy and cringe-worthy stunts, including faking a "Monica Lewinski," getting freaky on the bonnet of a car, snogging Katy Perry and doing some pretty unsightly things to a hot dog. Her pre-teen fans are obviously revelling in it but their outraged accompanying parents have called for the tour to be axed. Check out the whole debate.
BRIT Awards Stuffed With Surprises: The biggest awards evening on the UK music industry calendar - the BRIT Awards - was held on Wednesday and saw a typically spectacular showcase of pop talent, rising up to meet the benchmark set by the Grammys. In a hurry? We've picked our ten best moments. He may not have even attended but David Bowie became the most talked-about star of the evening when he won the prize for Best British Male and sent Kate Moss to read his acceptance speech.
Daft Punk were predictably the best international band whilst Ellie Goulding was Best British Female and Bastille were crowned Breakthrough Act. Brit rockers Arctic Monkeys had a stonker of an evening, pulling off the record-breaking feat of being the only band to have picked up the "double whammy" pairing of British Group and Best Album three times. Alex Turner's apparent drunken acceptance speech was not one to be missed and neither were the surprise performances from Beyoncé and Prince alongside Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams and Arctic Monkeys.
Cinematic Brilliance Celebrated At BAFTAs: Last Sunday saw the annual British movie event, the BAFTAs, where the world's biggest stars stepped out in their finery to celebrate an unmatched year in filmmaking. Gravity was the evening's biggest winner with six gongs to 12 Years A Slave's two. However, Steve McQueen's slavery drama managed to get one in over Gravity, taking the coveted Best Film honour in an evening stuffed with truly exemplary British entertainment. Highlights included Brangelina's matching ensemble, Lupita Nyong'o's green Dior gown and Tinie Tempah's high-five with Prince William.
'The Lego Movie' Continues Box Office Empire: The Lego Movie has emerged as the top box office movie for a third weekend, earning $31.5m (£18.9m) and blocking out major rivals Pompeii, The Monuments Men, 3 Days To Kill and Robocop with ease. Read out review here. The sweet, energetic and funny animated comedy charmed critics and now is having the same effect on adults and kids alike as it continues to open worldwide. Check out the trailer and some pretty awesome stills and whilst you're here, read up on some whimsical and interesting Lego facts too!
'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Trailer Finally Released: Marvel has sure built up fan anticipation to the max head of the release of new superhero movie Guardians of the Galaxy. After a frustratingly short teaser was dropped this week, the full trailer was launched for the movie which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel as the intergalactic crew of misfits. Marvel is taking a gamble by releasing a film with an entirely new crew of characters. Before the movie's 1st August release, familiarise yourself with the characters here.
Jimmy Fallon Takes 'Tonight Show' Baton: We'd barely been given time to lament the departure of Jay Leno but now the new and sprightly The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon has made himself comfy in the outgoing host's chair. Fallon kicked off his inaugural show with a hilarious 'Evolution of Hip Hop Dancing' skit with Will Smith and ended the same week with an equally giggle-some 'History of Rap' piece with Justin Timberlake. Too funny! On a darker note, why was Leno shoe-horned out after two decades?
Video Of The Week - 'Only Lovers Left Alive': The trailer has been out for some time but Friday saw the UK premiere of Jim Jarmusch's achingly stylish vampire romance Only Lovers Left Alive. Tilda Swinton and Thor's Tom Hiddlestone cut a formidable pair as a vampire couple struggling to retain their anonymity in the modern day. Dark, brooding, sexy , and Detroit: check out the trailer, oh, and if you're worried: it's SO not Twilight and here's why.
