David Cassidy was arrested in upstate New York for driving under the influence. The former Partridge Family star was pulled over outside Albany for driving with his high beams on. He was approaching a police check-point when he failed to switch off the high beams. After Officer Tom Jones (seriously!) pulled Cassidy over, he could smell alcohol on the singer's breath. After Officer Jones breathalysed Cassidy and the 63-year-old failed at the field sobriety test. In the breathalyser test, Cassidy has a blood alcohol content of 0.10%, the legal limit is 0.08%.

According to reports in TMZ, Cassidy was arrested and taken to the nearby police station. He was released after posting the $2500 bail. As he has a previous DUI conviction from Florida in 2010, he will be facing felony charges. Cassidy is due to appear at SchodackTown Court on September 4th.

Cassidy was a huge star in the 1970s and, according to his step-mother Shirley Jones, was "overwhelmed" by the pressures of fame. His difficulty with coping with success and his fortune has caused him to turn to drink on a number of occasions for comfort, as suggested by Jones in her interview with AccessHollywood.

Cassidy is best known for his role in The Partridge Family as Keith Partridge. His step-mother, Shirley Jones, played his on-screen mother also called Shirley. The musical drama aired between 1970 and 1974 on ABC. The show launched Cassidy's hugely successful solo career. His hits include 'Cherish', 'Daydreamer' and 'Rock Me Baby'. Cassidy has not performed, either vocally or dramatically, for a number of years. His last album was released in 2008 and featured remixes of his hit songs.
