David Gandy admits he was put under pressure lose weight.

The model-and-actor - who made his name as the face and body of the Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue campaign and now stars alongside Helena Christensen in new short movie 'Away We Stay' - admits he was asked to slim down when he first started out but refused to as he wanted to remain healthy.

He said: "Of course I was under pressure to lose weight. But I stood my ground and said, 'I can't be skinny' though - it wouldn't have been possible to do it healthily, even if I tried. I was quite chubby when I was 15 and then I shot up and was really skinny."

David is pleased the trend for skinny male models seems to be dwindling and more 'real men' are now being used in campaigns.

He told Britain's Grazia magazine: "Me, Mario Testino and Dolce & Gabbana did the 'guy in the white pants' Light Blue advert, which everyone loved. Then Armani did it with David Beckham. Then Calvin Klein brought out the Man fragrance. so you could probably say we started the whole thing. I'm proud that although there's still the androgynous guys who do a lot of the shows, the bigger guys get a lot more work now, too."
