Tom Hanks' Diabetes Announcement Shocks Fans Of The Actor

Tom Hanks David Letterman

Tom Hanks’ diabetes announcement surprised Letterman viewers on Monday night, when the actor revealed that he has been living with the condition for some time now. Hanks has Type 2 diabetes and the news sparked instant speculation that the actor’s fluctuating weight was the reason.

Tom Hanks, The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles
The actor's everchanging appearance might have been the cause behind his condition.

One of his best-known roles – as a Robinson Crusoe-like character in Castaway – required him to shed 55 pounds. For another part, he had to pack on 30 pounds in a matter of months. Hanks, an Academy Award winner, has never shied away from making drastic changes to his physical appearance for certain roles, but these dramatic weight fluctuations can often be a contributing factor to diabetes.

Bill Murray And George Clooney Became Friends After Wheelchair Prank

Bill Murray George Clooney David Letterman

Bill Murray recounts the tail of his first meeting with George Clooney and their prank involving pushing a wheelchair into a swimming pool. According to the 63-year-old Murray, he and 52-year-old Clooney became friends instantly after meeting for the first time at the Venice Film Festival a few years ago. This friendship, in part, came from an understanding that they had a very similar sense of humour after they pushed a friend around in a wheelchair before dumping him in a swimming pool.

Murray appeared on 'The Late Show with David Letterman', recounting the night he met Clooney. Murray explained: ''I met [Clooney] at the Venice Film Festival a few years ago and it's one of those places where people from Hollywood who are square like 364 days of the year, they will get weird in Venice. I don't know why, I don't know if it's the smell of the water or what, but all of these Hollywood kinds get crazy but not George, he's not one of them."

Bill Murray On Letterman - He Was Always Going To Do SOMETHING

Bill Murray David Letterman Michael Douglas Matt Damon

Bill Murray certainly turned some heads on the 20th birthday episode of The Late Show with David Letterman when he arrived in style as Liberace. Well and truly pimped out in the same kind of extravagant gear Liberice was famous for. He then sat down with a little dog: nothing more than an accessory to his outlandish garms.

Letterman said: “Wow that was wonderful Bill. Delightful. I am delightful. I didn't know you had a dog.” Bill said: “I had to get something that went with this outfit.” The audience, of course, were loving all this. Bill told them: “You know I love you audience. I love you, but I dont have time tonight. ‘Cos Im only here for one reason,” before pointing at Letterman. (Daily Mail)

Murray was the first guest on Letterman's first show on CBS in August 1993 and also the first guest on Letterman's first late-night show on NBC in 1982. The pair have appeared together on the show some 25 times. He always has something prepared for any of the myriad Letterman shows he’s appeared on.

Denzel Washington David Letterman Mark Wahlberg

Denzel Washington has admitted that he has difficulty keeping his weight under control, mainly due to his love of ice-cream. Lindsay Lohan Recovery

Lindsay Lohan David Letterman

Lindsay Lohan is on her way to a comeback, if her most recent appearance on Letterman is anything to go by.

In her chat with the talk show host, Lohan’s personality and wit shone through for the first time in a while and everyone took notice. Even celebrity gossip site Gawker had a few positive things to say for once: "Humanity shines through … Lindsay was witty and borderline charming for much of her chat with Dave. There may be hope for her yet," the article states.

Lindsay has also been working more than usual recently, having appeared along her friend, Charlie Sheen in both a cameo in Scary Movie 5 (where she poked fun at her own ridiculous situation) and Sheen’s TV series, Anger Management. However, with reports of Lohan’s questionable behavior during shooting and with her previous history of substance abuse, everyone is weary of calling it a comeback just yet. Noah Levi, senior editor at In Touch Weekly magazine, made this cautious comment on Lindsay’s pending recovery: "She seemed to be slightly apologetic, slightly aware. But I don't think she is fully there yet.”

Lindsay Lohan Chooses New York Rehab Facility For Three Month Stretch

Lindsay Lohan David Letterman

Lindsay Lohan has made arrangements to enter a rehabilitation facility in New York state in May, according to the Los Angeles Times. Lohan's legal team is understandably keen not to disclose the details of the facility, though it's likely that media outlets will be furiously scurrying around Gotham to find out where Lindsay will be holed up for the next three months.

The actress, 26, made an appearance on the David Letterman show on Tuesday (April 9, 2013) and although saying she hadn't spoken about rehab in the pre-interview, was peppered with questions about her three-month stint by the TV host. In fairness, she remained upbeat and made a few jokes. "I'm the happiest when I'm working, and the healthiest. And I think [rehab] is an opportunity for me to, you know, focus on what I love in life. And I don't think it's a bad thing," she said. "I think it's a blessing ... and not a curse," she explained. When asked if she had "addiction" problems, Lohan told Letterman he sounded like Dr Phil, much to the delight of the live studio audience.

During her sentencing for lying to police, Lohan was ordered to enter a facility in which she could leave for any reason. Though the facility will not be locked as such, Lohan would violate her probation if she left at any time. Officials will be monitoring her progress at all times, though her attorney Mark Heller said, "I'm very confident that you won't be seeing Lindsay Lohan in any criminal courts any time in the future."

Letterman Banned Guest Harmony Korine For Stealing From Meryl Streep

Harmony Korine David Letterman James Franco Selena Gomez Vanessa Hudgens Meryl Streep

David Letterman banned guest Harmony Korine from the Late Show after he found the Spring Breakers director rifling through the purse of Meryl Streep. Letterman told the story on Monday (March 25, 2013) when prompted by guest James Franco, the star of Korine' latest movie.

The actor said he heard Korine was banned after pushing Meryl Steep backstage, though defended his director, saying, "Harmony is a very sane guy now -- a great artist and great person to work with. But I think he had a period where he was going a little off the rails, so maybe he was on something that night.

Letterman proceeded to correct Franco on the incident, saying, "I went upstairs to greet Meryl Streep and welcome her to the show, and I knock on the door ... and she was not in there. And I looked around, and she was not in there, and I found Harmony going through her purse. True story. And so I said: 'That's it. Put her things back in her bag and then get out."

Johnny Depp Close Call Nearly Ended The Actor’s Life!

Johnny Depp David Letterman

We don’t like to hear about a Johnny Depp close call; it means there could have been world without Depp – and we hate that world. Still, he’s a natural storyteller, and that’s exactly what he did with Letterman: tell the story of his near death experience.

"We were shooting at a different place in the desert where there's these little bumps and things," Depp told Letterman. "And so the horse that I was on decided to jump a couple of these little obstacles. The horse was unaware that the saddle I was wearing to sit on top of it was jury-rigged, kind of faked ... to give the effect that I'm riding bareback. So basically it's not very tight on the horse. So when we came down, the saddle slipped and I went to the left and had the reins here and somehow had the wherewithal to grab the mane of the horse. All very calm for some reason, I figured that fear would kick in but it didn't. I was waiting," Depp continued, able to laugh about it.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Models Grace The Late Show With David Letterman

Kate Upton Emily Didonato Nina Agdal Charlie Sheen Genevieve Morton David Letterman

So we know who’s going to be on the cover; it’s Kate Upton. Everybody knows that. So how do you drum up interest after the fact? Send every swimwear model onto The Late Show With David Letterman, that’s how.

All the girls – looking slightly odd fully dressed – participated in the Late Show Top Ten list, with Monday's topic being the top 10 questions on the application to become a SI swimsuit model. Emily Didonato started things off with: "How naked do you see yourself in five years?" Nina Agdal asked "Have you ever dated Charlie Sheen? (we can’t work out what the right answer for that question is)."Have you ever used any pose-enhancing drugs?" posed Julie Henderson. "Are you willing to visit the elderly at his late-night talk show?" offered Genevieve Morton and "How would Brent Musberger describe you?" was Miss Alabama Katherine Webb’s. No. 1 was cover girl Upton, with: "Where's the strangest place you've found sand?"

We’re pretty sure the application for swimsuit model on Sports Illustrated sounds like the worst thing ever - if you’re at all into feminism, equal rights or any of that left-wing cushiony nonsense that is. But if you like the idea selecting people based solely on their looks and their answers to sleazy questions, they my-oh-my, it’ll be right up your street. We jest, of course (sort of). The new issue of Sports Illustrated is released on Tuesday 11 February (TODAY!).

We've all had that moment; looking at photos of our favourite celebs and then jumping out of our seats screaming, 'He's HOW old?!' Well, we've been doing a lot of that here at ContactMusic. Some stars seem to have crept up the age ladder pretty sneakily, the odd wrinkle and grey hair barely registering on our radar, while others don't seem to have aged at all! English football player David Beckham was in his twenties when he rose to global popularity and, looking at his recent H&M underwear advert, it seems that his iconic hairstyles and tattoos are our only way of working out the old from the newer pictures of him. However, he is only 37 and has plenty of time to catch up yet. It's the over-50s that have really had our mouths agape in recent times as we've been scouring the net for the most youthful looking middle to old aged stars.

Possible Future President Chris Christie: Do I Care About Fat Jokes? (Eats Doughnut)

David Letterman

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie - a likely candidate for the 2016 presidential elections - appeared on David Letterman's show Monday night, to speak about...well...his weight really. Mr Christie has previously called his, err, plumpness, fair game for comedians and spoke about the issue with everybody's favourite late night TV host.

Christie won over the audience by suggesting a few of Letterman's past jokes about his weight were actually some of his favorites. "And this one I thought, I don't know if it's one of your best ones, but I think it's very topical given what went on yesterday," Christie said, "A billion dollars will be spent on potato chips for Super Bowl Sunday, and that's just at Gov. Christie's house." After rather specifically suggesting that 40 per cent of Letterman's jokes about his weight were funny, the governor drew loud laughs when he was asked whether he was bothered about the digs about his weight. Christie pulled out a doughnut from nowhere and began chomping down on it - telling Letterman that no, he wasn't really that bothered.

Christie was initially seen as a possible candidate in the 2012 Presidential Election, though Mitt Romney eventually got the nod. Many Republicans view him as a leading contender for 2016.

Kim Kardashian Flirts With Androgyny As She And Kourtney Arrive For Letterman Show (Video)

Kim Kardashian Kourtney Kardashian David Letterman

Kim Kardashian and sister Kourtney Kardashian arrived at the David Letterman show last night looking made up to the nines, with Kim sporting a sleek trouser suit and Kourtney opting for a more feminine look. As the blacked-out vehicles carrying the reality TV stars pulled up to the New York studios, it took a little while for either sister to emerge, as Kim was preened by an assistant, getting her hair smoothed right down before she faced the waiting paparazzi, who can be heard wrongly reassuring each other “that’s Kourtney.”

Kim had opted for a smart, androgynous look (well, if you discount the towering black and white peep-toe heels she had on), her hair was side-parted and slicked down (thanks partly to hair product, we imagine and partly to her assistant who hurriedly patted it down for her before she turned to face the cameras). She wore a smart black trouser suit and white blouse and remained expressionless as she pouted for the waiting cameras. Her sister Kourtney had her hair braided in a plait across her head, and a slash of red lipstick to counteract her monochrome outfit. She’d opted for a white dress with black stilettos.

Sheen To Be Grandfather! Charlie's Daughter Cassandra Is Pregnant

Charlie Sheen David Letterman Ashton Kutcher

Charlie Sheen is to be a grandfather after announcing that his 28-year-old daughter Cassandra Estevez is pregnant. The 47-year-old Anger Management star shared the happy news with David Letterman on his Late Show after the host pushed him about "fessing up to a big development" in his life.

"You are going to be, in the next several months...fill in the blanks," teased Letterman. "You are going to be a..." Smiling back, Sheen replied, "Grandfather," to the delight of the audience, adding, "it's fabulous," though suggesting that 'Grandpa' was "not a title I'm ready to adopt." When Letterman asked whether Sheen thought he would make a "good grandfather," the former Two and a Half Men actor quipped, "Yeah, because you can leave the kid!" We don't know about you, but Charlie Sheen seems like a pretty decent guy to have as your grandfather, at least the visits to his house would be mildly entertaining? Cassandra is Sheen's daughter with his high-school girlfriend Paula Speert and in 2010, he walked her down the aisle when she married Casey Huffman in Santa Barbara.

Later in his chat with Letterman, Sheen gave his thoughts on Two and a Half Men - now led by Ashton Kutcher - claiming he'd like to appear in the final episode of the show. We reckon the odds of that happening are slim to none.

Confirmed: Jimmy Kimmel Really Doesn't Like Jay Leno

Jimmy Kimmel Jay Leno David Letterman

Jimmy Kimmel, whose show is moving to a new 11.35pm time slot, targets rival Jay Leno in a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine. The pair have history: beginning in 1992 when Leno won the Tonight Show job over David Letterman. As a huge fan of the latter host, Kimmel felt the job was stolen away from his hero.

Kimmel explains that years later, Leno courted him with weekly phone calls. He needed the younger host to give up his midnight time slot in order to make his own show happen. In recent years, the Live! host has taken numerous swipes at Leno, including saying "F*** him" during an interview with Bill Carter. In the new "marijuana-enhanced" interview with Rolling Stone, Kimmel said, "Leno hasn't been a good stand-up in 20 years. As a comedian, you can't not have disdain for what he's done. He totally sold out. He was a master chef who opened a Burger King." Leno still performs a stand-up routine at the L.A.-area Comedy and Magic Club every Sunday.

The pair's rivalry is about to intensify more-so, with Kimmel moving to the 11.35pm time slot to join Leno and his hero Letterman. It begins on Tuesday (January 8, 2013) with guests Jennifer Aniston and No Doubt.

Kimmel Slams Leno In Pot-Fuelled Rolling Stone Interview

Jimmy Kimmel Jay Leno David Letterman

Just a few days before his show moves to the coveted 11:35pm ET slot, it has come to light that Jimmy Kimmel slammed Leno in a Rolling Stone interview, the Daily Mail reports. In the interview, during which Kimmel is reportedly smoking blunts with the magazine’s reporter, he gives Jay Leno a hell of a verbal pasting.

“Leno hasn’t been a good stand-up in 20 years,” says Kimmel, who continues “as a comedian, you can’t not have disdain for what he’s done. He totally sold out." Kimmel’s show will go head to head with Jay Leno once it moves time slots but Kimmel reckons’ Leno’s days are pretty much numbered. “Jay Leno is not going to be able to stay in television forever and obviously, Jimmy Fallon is doing a great job, so it makes sense people would talk like this.”

When he was done laying into his rival, though, Kimmel showed his positive side and had nothing but praise for his other talk show rival, David Letterman. Speaking of his childhood idol, he said “If I beat David Letterman in the ratings, does that mean I’m better than Letterman? No f***ing way.” He continued “People are going to compare me and him for years to come — we’re being positioned as the Leno and Letterman of the next round,' Kimmel reportedly said. 'I like it because he’s a very worthy competitor.”

ABC To Move Jimmy Kimmel Live To Premium Time Slot

Jimmy Kimmel David Letterman Jay Leno

A battle of the giants is approaching – networks, hosts and late-night shows will be fighting it out for ratings this January, as the Jimmy Kimmel Live show on ABC moves to a later time slot.

The switch to 11.35 might not seem like a big deal to most – after all it’s only 25 minutes later than Kimmel’s original slot, but it’s a move long prepped for by ABC and long dreaded by rival networks NBC and CBS. The new time slot puts Kimmel in direct competition for ratings with household names Jay Leno and David Letterman and this means a lot to the JKL host.

“I know moving from midnight to 11:35 might not sound like a big deal — it’s only 25 minutes — but it’s probably the most important 25 minutes of my life, since the first 14 times I had sex,” Kimmel told his audience in August, on the day ABC announced the change. The network has been grooming Kimmel for the promotion throughout last year, and it’ll be very interesting to see where the show goes from here. Meanwhile, Jay and David have reacted in very different ways to the news. While Letterman has given his blessing to the new competitor, Leno will be moving his show ahead by one minute, starting at 11.34. A whole minute ahead of the new rival. Somehow, we feel that that might not cut it in the fight for ratings.

David Letterman Opens Up On Depression

David Letterman

So often the man with the questions, Letterman has been subject to a few recently, as he stepped onto the other side of the desk as a recent guest of Jimmy Kimmel's, and an upcoming guest of Oprah Winfrey's. However this time was the turn of Charlie Rose on CBS' This Morning to get to know the chat-show goliath.

Choosing candour, Letterman talked about his battle with depression, saying, "[I was] always quite skeptical about it. My friend and doctor, Louis Aronne, 20 years ago, he said, 'You should take something for this,' and I said no, because I thought it would make me loopy or make me hallucinate or make me drowsy, and he said, 'I'm telling you, just try a 10 milligram [dose]." As is so often the case, a concoction of standard-issue drugs can have an adverse effect on one's mental health, and that's exactly what happened to Letterman. "So I had the shingles really bad," he explained, "and part of the concoction of drugs they give you to fight that pain are pretty serious, and I just got tired of taking them," Letterman continued. "So I stopped taking them.

"And then I was really screwed," Letterman said. "So that's when I said to Louis, 'OK, OK, I'll try anything just to get rid of this depression.' Because it's different than, 'Oh, I don't feel good today.' It's different than feeling sad. It's different than feeling blue. It's really, like a friend of mine says, it's the world with 20/20 vision."

Mick Jagger Breaks Silence On Maroon 5's 'Moves Like Jagger'

Mick Jagger Rolling Stones David Letterman Maroon 5 Christina Aguilera Adam Levine Kesha Cher Lloyd

Mick Jagger has finally broken his silence on the subject of Maroon 5's number one hit 'Moves Like Jagger' and revealed that he didn't get paid anything for his reference in the song.

The Rolling Stones lead vocalist appeared for an interview on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' and, to the viewers' amusement, produced a list entitled: 'Top Ten Things I, Mick Jagger, Have Learned After 50 Years In Rock 'n' Roll'. On the list was a light-hearted dig at Maroon 5's song 'Moves Like Jagger' featuring Christina Aguilera, the video of which begins with footage of Jagger in his younger years and later shows singer Adam Levine trying out some of the famous dance moves. Jagger had written on his list that he had learned that "You don't earn a cent when someone does a song about having moves like Jagger." The music legend also drew laughs from his other advice which included, "Be considerate of other hotel guests - trash your room by 10 pm" and, "Before shouting 'Hi Seattle!' make sure you're in Seattle."

'Moves Like Jagger' is not the first number one hit that has referenced the star; he has also been mentioned in Ke$ha's 'TiK ToK' ('We kick em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger') and Cher Lloyd's 'Swagger Jagger'.

If you believe the rumours, things haven't been going smoothly in the Aerosmith camp of late, with reports suggesting that the admittedly often turbulent rock band might be splitting up. Well, the relaxed demeanour of front man Steven Tyler as he turned up for David Letterman's Late Show suggested that such aspersions may be far fetched. Jimmy Kimmel On Interviewing David Letterman

Jimmy Kimmel David Letterman

Take one emerging talk show host, and make them interview one of the genre's all time legends, and what do you get? A nervous, emerging talk show host. Jimmy Kimmel says interviewing David Letterman is "a big deal" for him.

"It's been some welcome," he laughed, when Access Hollywood interviewed on moving his show to Brooklyn. "We were, of course, disappointed that we had to cancel our first show, and then trying to do the show in the middle of all this craziness has been difficult, but I don't know -- it brings people together to, I guess, stand in line outside Trader Joe's trying to get hummus," Jimmy joked. "Tonight David Letterman is on the show and the band Vampire Weekend... I'm nervous about it because I've been watching David Letterman religiously since I was about 13 years old," Jimmy said. "When I was a kid, my birthday cake said, 'Late Night with David Letterman' on it, my license plate on my car said, 'Late Night,' so it's a big deal for me."

We're not surprised: this would be like Kendrick Lamar interviewing 2 Pac; David Beckham interviewing Pele, or Daniel Radcliff interviewing any other professional actor capable of acting. It's a big deal. You can catch the two talk show hosts... talking, 12/11c tonight (Wednesday, October 31) on ABC.

Letterman And Jimmy Fallon Film Shows Despite Hurricane Sandy - "Frankenstorm"

David Letterman Jimmy Fallon Jimmy Kimmel

David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon may be taking the phrase 'the show much go on' a little too seriously, as both chat show hosts continued to tape their shows despite numerous warnings in light of Hurricane Sandy or Frankenstorm as it's become known.

It was all a little bit weird. Lettermen ran through some rejected nicknames for the storm, which would have been a hilarious bit on his normal show, but given the lack of live studio audience, and the fact his usual graphics guy was absent - meaning someone held up scrappy bits of paper on camera - it wasn't quite the slick show we've come to expect. At least Fallon started his show off with an acknowledgment that it was to be somewhat abnormal, kicking things off from a rain-soaked Rockefeller Plaza. Jimmy Kimmel decided to play it safe. The Hollywood reporter quotes a statement from his team, saying: "Due to stupid Hurricane Sandy and in the interest of the safety of our studio audience, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will not broadcast tonight from the Harvey Theatre at Brooklyn Academy of Music. We are hopeful to be back on the air tomorrow night with Howard Stern,Tracy Morgan and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings." Kimmel did go ahead with his Tuesday show (30th Oct. 2012).

This won't come as comforting news to many New Yorkers, many of which won't have the power to even watch the show (some reports suggest that power will be out for two weeks). Here at Contact Music we'd like to wish everyone on the East Coast the best of luck in getting through the stormy weather.

The Show Must Go On? David Letterman Props Up Entertainment Industry During Hurricane Sandy

David Letterman Jimmy Fallon Jimmy Kimmel Stephen Colbert Jon Stewart The XX Cat Power Grimes Rufus Wainwright The National Keira Knightley Russell Crowe Will Smith

The mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg has been making sure that the city's residents were fully prepared for Hurricane Sandy, which hit New York last night. And whilst the majority of New York citizens paid heed, TV presenter David Letterman decided to pay heed instead to that age-old motto from the world of entertainment. "the show must go on!"

According to MTV, Letterman wasn't going to let a minor detail like the biggest storms to ever hit the USA stop him from filming one of his late night chat shows. He did, however, film the episode of The Late Show With David Letterman without the presence of his usual live audience. He may have been prepared to brave the elements to get the show filmed but he wasn't about to let the general public endanger themselves in the process. The same applied to Jimmy Fallon's show, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

Other shows weren't so lucky. Jimmy Kimmel was forced to cancel one of his tapings in Brooklyn, announcing on Twitter "Though it pains us to do it, JKL from Brooklyn tonight is cancelled.
