Claire Danes appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday wearing an abundance of red and discussed meeting President Barack Obama.

Danes shone through with her strawberry blonde hair and red Giambattista Valli dress, matched red coat and red Christian Louboutin shoes. She looked extremely health, having gained something of a tan, presumably whilst wrapping up filming the third season of Homeland in Morocco.

The actress was also in New York to attend a screening of Homeland, which was attended by her co-star Damian Lewis and Vogue legend Anna Wintour. Lewis, who is a natural red-head, is sporting a moustache in honour of 'Movember.' A fourth season of the show has been ordered by Showtime, which will be good news for President Barack Obama as Danes hears "he's a big fan."

Danes and her husband, British actor Hugh Dancy, have met the President and Danes told a witty anecdote about their meeting. She said "I was lucky enough to meet him [Obama] even before I worked on the show." Letterman asked how Danes had come to meet the President to which she responded "I went to the White House Correspondents Dinner and I found myself in a VIP room -which was very exciting. And my husband was very courageous and said 'We are going to meet the president."

She continued by describing Obama's presence, telling Letterman: "He's just so magnetic and so charismatic. Tom Cruise was in the room and as soon as [Obama] walked into the room, it just eclipsed everyone, every amazing star."

At this moment, it seems panic set in and Danes and Dancy "went into fight or flight mode." The 36-year-old continued: "So we find ourselves in front of the president and, I'm kind of on autopilot, and I say, 'Hello, Mr. President, I'm Claire Danes, it's so lovely to meet you.' And he said, 'Oh yes, Claire Danes. Claire, you're a fine actress.' And I say, well you're a fine president.' And he said, you know, 'Well, you're a finer actress than I am president,' and I just had no retort whatsoever, so I ran to the bar and had a very large shot of vodka."
