No it was not Michael Hagerty, he played superintendent Mr Treeger.
A great TV mystery has finally been solved, as the man who was known to millions of ‘Friends’ viewers as Ugly Naked Guy has finally revealed himself (no, not in that way). After a year long search, Todd Van Luling from The Huffington Post tracked down the man whose face we never saw and confirmed his identity as actor Jon Haugen.
The identity of Ugly Naked Guy was a mystery as film database IMDB had wrongly credited the role to Michael Hagerty, who played Mr Treeger, the superintendent of Monica, Chandler, Rachel and Joey’s building.
Speaking to The Huffington Post Hagery said: “I never played the Ugly Naked Guy. IMDb, the information is close, but a lot of times it’s very, very, very wrong. And that said, I’d rather be known as Mr. Treeger than the Ugly Naked Guy anyways.”
Ugly Naked Guy was seen twice during ‘Friends’' 10 seasons, but his face was never shown. He first appeared in season three’s ‘The One With The Giant Poking Device’, where the gang tried to poke him with a long pole they had made out of chopsticks. Here only his stomach was shown.
But in season five episode ‘The One Where Everybody Finds Out’, he was featured heavily, even having a conversation with Ross, but once again his face was hidden. After a year long quest the real identity of Ugly Naked Guy was finally revealed, he was a man named Jon Haugen.
“There’s only one Ugly Naked Guy, man, and that was me,” Haugen told Huffington Post. When asked why had he kept his identity a secret for so long Haugen said: “The reason I never came forward was because I was just keeping it mellow because Warner Brothers was keeping it mellow. They wanted everybody to have a guess who I was.”
“It was the best time in my life,” Haugen said. “I was the man.” The actor also dropped a major bombshell, he and David Schwimmer weren't actually naked in the scene where he and Ross hung out at his apartment.
“I was in boxer shorts,” said Haugen. “At first I was feeling a little shy because I had about 500 people watching me in the audience besides the crew and everything. But after about two minutes went by, I was real comfortable and David Schwimmer was real comfortable. We were just in boxer shorts and they made it look like we were naked.”
Haugen also said that he’d love to see a ‘Friends’ reunion. "I was hoping they would bring me back and we’d do some more,” he said. “Maybe we can create a buzz and get everybody back together."
