After a quarter of a decade as the moustachioed Belgian super sleuth Hercule Poirot, David Suchet will finally bid a fond farewell to the character that has defined his career as an actor. The Emmy and BAFTA award-winning actor will return to ITV as Poirot for one last time when he stars in the eagerly anticipated adaption of Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case.

The final Poirot tale written by Agatha Christie, Curtain is also Suchet's final bow as the famed detective and picks up with an aged and immobilised Poirot who comes out of retirement to return to the scene of his first case, Styles Court. With the help of his old friend Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser) the frail Poirot may not be as spry as he once was, but his wits have not left him as he and Hastings team up once more to prevent an imminent murder.

Ahead of his final show as Poirot, Suchet returned to his first calling, live theatre, and recently visited the Theatre Royal in Nottingham to re-tread the footsteps he so regularly took before finding international fame as Poirot.

"As long as we can continue being surprised, the feet stay on the ground and we are grateful," he told The Nottingham Post of his experiences as Poirot. And to be link to such a character for so long, David has conceded that he will long be remembered for his role, but he is happy to be forever remembered as Poirot nonetheless. He continued, "I've got no problem with that because I had been an actor for 19 years before I ever came to Poirot. By the time I got to Poirot, I had a theatre following and it was a classical theatre following."

"It was the hardest day to shoot of my life," he described his final day of shooting Curtain. "I will mourn him and miss him. I've become him and in a sense, he's my dearest friend. And I will lose him. But yeah, he'll still be on ITV 3."

Curtain: Poirot's Last Case will premiere on ITV on Wednesday, 13 November at 9.00pm.
