However, despite initial viewing figures of nearly three million, representing a success in terms of the ratings, the reaction on Twitter was such that one wonders what lies in the store for the show on its second night on Tuesday.

Kicking off the proceedings, Rowan Atkinson returned as Mr Bean in his first full new sketch in eight years as the character attended a funeral in a small village church. Sheridan Smith David Walliams

Michael Grandage's updated take on William Shakespeare's centuries old comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream, has finally premiered at London's Noel Coward theatre. Set in the 60s, the psychedelic and confusing aspects of the play work well with the bright costumes, joint smoking and dress up games; the fairies are reimagined as a group of stoner, free-loving hippies with actress Sheridan Smith as Titania at the helm.

With a crazed smile on her face, 30 year-old Natalie Ann Holt burst out from her ranks as a member of the orchestra of Welsh opera runners-up Richard and Adam Johnson, rushed to the front of the stage with a box of eggs and began to throw them at BGT judge Simon Cowell.

Despite apologising afterwards for her "silly" stunt, Holt said she'd orchestrated the eggy onslaught as a reaction to Cowell's influence on the music industry: "I took a stand against people miming on TV and against Simon Cowell and his dreadful influence on the music industry."

She certainly made a scene: earning thousands of Twitter followers after her daring stunt became the most talked about part of the final before she was removed from the stage by security as fellow judges Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams observed the events with horror.

Little Britain: David Walliams And Lara Stone Welcome Baby Boy

David Walliams Lara Stone Simon Cowell Amanda Holden

Britain's Got Talent judge and Little Britain star David Walliams has become a father for the first time after his supermodel wife Lara Stone gave birth on Sunday (April 5, 2013). A spokesman for the Dutch model told the UK's Independent newspaper, "We can confirm they have had a baby boy." No further details regarding weight or name were given.

Walliams acknowledged the birth by posting a picture of a floral bouquet on Twitter, which he said was from X-Factor honcho Simon Cowell. The white roses appeared to feature sprigs of mint, lavender and rosemary, with Walliams writing, "Someone always has to show off and send the biggest bouquet." David and Simon's BGT co-judge Amanda Holden said she was thrilled to hear of the birth, tweeting, "Love love love to them all."

Walliams, who married Stone in 2010, found national fame with BBC comedy show Little Britain. He first announced the pregnancy in November, tweeting, "Some wonderful news. My beautiful wife Lara is pregnant. We are having a baby! It is due next year and we both couldn't be happier." During an appearance on Alan Carr's Chatty Man show, the comedian said it was unlikely he and Stone would opt for an unusual name, "It's a bit of a curse if you're called Apple or Peaches or something like that. I think we're just going to go with a normal name."

Judges Return For Britains Got Talent, Auditions Started With A Splash

Simon Cowell Amanda Holden David Walliams

Britain's Got Talent wont be back on our screens for a few months, but the auditions have just got under-way in Cardiff so news of the weird and wonderful (and sometimes utterly dreadful) acts are finding their way onto the internet. The one that's attracting most attention is an act that could barely avoid being seen, as the props and scale of it were simply too big for any theatre: fire-y diving.

Perhaps taking influence from the enormous attention British divers got from the Olympics this year, one of the team at La Quebrada High Diving Productions (which actually includes Team GB diver Peter Waterfield - cheating, no?) decided to climb up an enormous scaffold structure, set themselves on fire and then dive into a pool below. Sounds seriously dangerous but they pulled it off without making too much of a splash it seems. The whole audience were brought outside to watch, and a source at the Mirror said: "The divers were so brave. It was freezing cold but they never let it get to them. The crowd were buzzing with excitement."

This year, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and veteran judge Simon Cowell are all back to judge. Auditions will be held from now until February 10th, reaching London, Manchester, Glasgow, and Birmingham along the way.

Hillary Scott From Lady Antebellum Makes The Latest Knocked Up Celebrities List

The list of pregnant celebrities just keeps getting longer and longer this year with Lady Antebellum member Hillary Scott becoming the latest to be bearing a sprog, with husband Chris Tyrrell.

The country singer, 26, who married her band's new drummer in January this year, confirmed the happy news on Twitter to her fans. 'Chris & I are excited to announce that our Christmas gift has arrived a little early this year! We are having a BABY! We feel so blessed!!!' she wrote. It comes just in time as the trio, Hillary, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, have recently finished their huge world tour following their second album 'Own the Night's release and the news comes only days after another country singer, Jennifer Nettles, welcomed her baby boy into the world on December 6th 2012.

It's been a big year for A-List pregnancies too with Kate Middleton and Prince William's (aka the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) news being one of the most talked about events recently. Other celeb bumps include that of Radio 1 presenter Fearne Cotton, comedian David Walliams' wife Lara Stone, Peaches Geldof (again!), recently wed Rochelle Wiseman from The Saturdays (with her hubby JLS' Marvin Humes) and 'Homeland' star Claire Danes.

Great Expectations Review

Very Good

Even though Charles Dickens' oft-told story is livened up with a terrific cast and sharp script, it's difficult to see anything terribly new about this BBC-produced version. Especially since it comes less than a year after their previous lavish TV production. But there are plenty of elements in this film that make it worth seeing, as the soap-style plot twists and turns through comedy and romance to its action-thriller climax.

After growing up as an orphan with his blacksmith uncle (Flemyng) and high-strung aunt (Hawkins), Pip (Irvine) is given the chance to live as a London gentleman. He's sure that his anonymous benefactor is the barmy Miss Havisham (Bonham Carter), a broken-hearted hermit he worked for as a child. And since he's still in love with her adopted daughter Estella (Grainger), he decides to use his new position in society to court her. But things don't quite go as expected, and his life takes a surprising turn when scary prison escapee Magwitch (Fiennes) latches onto Pip and begins revealing some surprising connections between all of these people.

This faithful retelling of Dickens' novel is packed with coincidences and revelations, as well as the kind of gleefully thorny rivalries that would be expected on Dallas or Downton Abbey. Overloaded with blackly comical intrigue, it's a compulsively enjoyable film that entertains us on a variety of levels as the story develops. Although director Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) never tries anything too flashy. Which means that despite the high quality, the film is straightforward and perhaps unnecessary.

Great Expectations Trailer

Pip is a young orphan who has a chance meeting with a frightening stranger while visiting the graves of his parents; a meeting which was to be the catalyst a series of events that would shape his future. Not long after this experience, an unhinged, jilted spinster called Miss Havisham asks Uncle Pumblechook (the uncle of Pip's brother-in-law with whom he lives) to find a young boy to provide company for her adopted daughter Estella. When Pip is chosen, he becomes a regular visitor of Miss Havisham who manipulates him into falling for the pretty but cold-hearted Estella as he grows older. When he becomes a blacksmith's apprentice at his brother-in-law's shop, he is approached by a lawyer who informs him that he has been left a large sum of money by a mysterious benefactor and must journey to London to become a gentleman. Little does he know of the surprises that lay in store for him as he discovers that he has so many secrets to uncover.

Fit For A Queen? Royal Variety Features One Direction, David Walliams And Washing Machines

David Walliams One Direction Harry Styles Girls Aloud Katherine Jenkins Rod Stewart Robbie Williams Neil Diamond

It's that time of year again people. The Royal Variety Performance was taped on Monday evening (November 19, 2012) and featured a whole host of entertainment stars taking to the stage at London's Albert Hall in front of one very special guest. This year, the Queen witnessed performances from the likes of One Direction, Girls Aloud and Katherine Jenkins, reports the Daily Mirror.

Fresh from their stateside success, the 1D boys were back in London  to perform new single 'Little Things', though we're not sure how it went down with her majesty. David Walliams' skit afterwards probably confused her even more; the Little Britain star bounding on-stage in a wig and red cardigan while pretending to be a stalker. "I've got a washing machine and I named it One Direction. You make me so happy," he yelled in a high pitched voice. "Was your song What Makes You Beautiful written about me? I love you so much. Will you marry me?" The group turned down his proposal before he approached heartthrob Harry Styles to ask him to "take a photo" of him with the rest of the boys. Walliams, 41, hosted the evening with Amanda Holden also on-hand to introduce some of the acts.

Elsewhere, a reunited Girls Aloud took to the stage to perform 'The Promise' and Cheryl Cole spoke of meeting the Queen afterwards. "The Queen is so delicate. She has hair like Candy floss and tiny dancing style shoes, awww. Another highlight was Alicia Keys, such an incredibly talented and down to earth woman," she said. The 100th anniversary of the Royal Variety Performance will air on ITV on December 3, also featuring performances from Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams and Neil Diamond.

100th Royal Variety Performance: David Walliams, One Direction, Girls Aloud And Pudsey The Dog

Queen Elizabeth II David Walliams One Direction Britain's Got Talent

Marking a very special year in the Royal Variety Performance, all manner of British and international stars showed up to perform in front of the Queen and Prince Phillip.

Not only is this 100th performance special in its own right, but of course it also coincides with the Queen's Jubilee year. A great year for the British monarchy! Making a very special appearance to amuse the Queen was a One Direction stalker. Although the stalker was arguably more turning up for 1D... and was also not a stalker, but David Walliams dressed in the garb of a teenage girl and spouting adoring words at the lads. "I've got a washing machine and I named it One Direction. You make me so happy." The Walliams Stalker said, "Was your song What Makes You Beautiful written about me? I love you so much. Will you marry me?" They said no.

Winners of this year's Britains Got Talent, Ashleigh and her dog Pudsey, were also there to perform for the Queen, reports the Mirror. "I will let the queen do the talking." Ashleigh said about the prospect of meeting the Queen, "If she wants to talk to me I will say something back and just make sure Pudsey is good as well."  Apparently, dog Pudsey is in the process of talks about starring in his own film, but for on the night he was simply content with a cheeseburger reward for all his hard efforts on the day. The whole of the performance will be aired on December 3rd on ITV.

Walliams has in recent times been acting as a judge on the popular variety talent show 'Britain's Got Talent' as well as writing various children's books with Roald Dahl illustrator Quentin Blake adding colour to them.  The soon-to-be-welcomed baby Walliams will have to compete for their parents' affections with the new puppy Bert who seems to have been spoiled rotten by the couple. 'A baby will probably never be as fun as Bert', Lara said in a previous interview about her future with David.

David Walliams - the popular comedic actor - and his model wife Lara Stone are expecting their first child together. The 41-year-old Little Britain star broke the news on Twitter yesterday (November 15, 2012), a message that was subsequently re-tweeted over 3,000 times.

"Some wonderful news. My beautiful wife Lara is pregnant. We are having a baby! It is due next year and we both couldn't be happier. Dx," Walliams told followers. An official statement reported by The Telegraph read, "We're very excited to announce we are expecting our first child. We're both absolutely thrilled but ask you to please respect our privacy during this precious time." The couple married at Claridge's Hotel in central London two year ago, since which David has fronted the ITV1 reality show Britain's Got Talent. Earlier this year, he admitted to battling depression and spoke of how he tried to commit suicide several times before meeting his current wife.

The baby will certainly be a welcome addition to the family, though will he or she take priority over Walliams' beloved dog Bert? Stone, 28, has previously joked on Twitter, "A baby will probably never be as fun as Bert."

David Walliams And Lara Stone Are Having A Baby

David Walliams Lara Stone

Little Britain's David Walliams has announced on Twitter that he and his model wife Lara Stone are going to have a baby. The tweet said, "Some wonderful news. My beautiful wife Lara is pregnant. We are having a baby! It is due next year and we both couldn't be happier. Dx".

Reported in the Sun, he added in a statement: "We're very excited to announce we are expecting our first child. We're both absolutely thrilled but ask you to please respect our privacy during this precious time." This is the first child for both Stone, 28 and Walliams, 41 who wed in 2010 after a brief engagement. Walliams first asked Stone's parents for their blessing before proposing with a vintage diamond ring in Los Angeles.

As well as being an award winning comedian, Walliams also writes children's books and began his role as a judge on Britain's Got Talent earlier this year, a role he is expected to reprise in 2013. Stone was included in Forbes' rich list for highest earning models this year. The joint successes of the parents-to-be sets the bar incredibly high for the baby, which with genes like those means we expect the child to be hilarious and beautiful.

Emily Blunt at the Bazaar Women Of The Year Awards

There was an Olympic feel on the red carpet of the Harper's Bazaar Women Of The Year Awards (not to be confused with the Bizarre Women Of The Year Awards, which we imagine would be quite a different ceremony) but one actress managed to fend them all off in the glamour stakes, with Emily Blunt looking delightful in an Alexander McQueen orange gown with sparkly neckline. It was a wonderful outfit for the actress to wear as she scooped the British actor of the year award at the event held at Claridge's Hotel in London.

PICTURES: Halloween Party Of The Year? Jonathan Ross Transforms House Into Dungeon

Jonathan Ross David Walliams Jimmy Carr Simon Pegg Michael McIntyre

For most people, Halloween means fashioning some kind of mummy outfit out of an old bed sheet that you no longer need. Or popping down the pound shop for a witch’s hat and cheap face paint. It means carving a rudimentary smile in a pumpkin. It means traipsing round the neighbourhood with your children whilst they beg people for confectionary that’s actually worth more than the cheap outfit you hastily dressed them up to go trick or treating. Or it means staying home and pretending that you’re not in, whilst watching a marathon of horror DVDs.

Not if you’re Jonathan Ross though. Oh no. The formerly-disgraced-but-now-sort-of-back-in-everyone’s-good-books TV presenter must be planning to throw one hell (see what we did there) of a party because he’s got workers in transforming his palatial home into some kind of castle, or dungeon. No expense spared for a party at Wossy’s house, folks!

Wanting To Die Has Always Been In Me: David Walliams' Suicide Attempts

David Walliams

The press embargo on David Walliams’ autobiography was lifted today and The Sun have published details of Walliams’ suicide attempts. “Wanting to die has always been in me,” he says in the book, though admits, after cutting his throat and wrists with a kitchen knife: “the determination wasn’t there.” In today’s article from The Sun, they reveal how the Little Britain comedian made his first suicide attempt aged just 12.

At the age of 18, he reportedly overdosed on painkillers and cut his wrists; he even apparently considered throwing himself under a train. His experiences with depression – which he says “blighted” his life - are detailed in a new autobiography entitled Camp David, which is published next week. Walliams sought treatment at The Priory for his depression, which is also detailed in the book. He had originally requested that the press did not discuss the details of his suicide attempts, because he didn’t want that to overshadow the memories of his achievements.

A 2003 diary entry in the book reads “Just tried to hang myself. But I knew I didn’t really want to die, I just didn’t want to live. I took my weight with my feet and sat down. Earlier I had come close to stepping in front of a train. I am in total despair.”

Shocking New David Walliams Autobiography Reveals Suicide Attempts

David Walliams

David Walliams has revealed that he's shockingly attempted to kill himself twice in his life, the much-loved British comic giving away the revelations in a new autobiography. Walliams is now firmly ensconced in the British public's conscious having made a huge success of himself with Matt Lucas and going on to appear on numerous comedy panel shows and reality contests like Britain's Got Talent.

However, the Daily Mail is reporting that Walliams has had a dark history, with his forthcoming book, titled Camp David, going into detail about two attempts at suicide. The first apparently took place when the comic was just 19 years old, when he ran off into the woods with a makeshift noose only to find that he was "too tall" to go through with it. The second, he wrote, occurred in 2003 when he split from a girlfriend. "Just tried to hang myself" the book reads. "But I knew I didn't really want to die, I just didn't want to live. I took my weight with my feet and sat down."

In further violent imagery, Walliams also claimed that he also slit his wrists and even thought about throwing himself in front of a train. Walliams has made it public before that he suffers from depression, and in the book he admitted "The determination wasn't there..." when it came to taking his own life, but also said "Wanting to die has always been in me."

David Walliams Grabs Third Nomination For Roald Dahl Funny Prize

David Walliams Roald Dahl

Funny man David Walliams has completed a hat trick of sorts, after his third shortlist appearance for the Roald Dahl funny prize was announced, reports The Guardian.

He has become one of the fastest-selling authors in the UK, selling more than 20,000 books a week. His previous works: The Boy in the Dress and Mr Stink – both illustrated by Quentin Blake – were previously recognised by the award, which is named after one of the biggest children’s authors of all time. His competition comes in the form of Frank Cottrell Boyce, Philip Reeve, Josh Lacey, Jamie Thomson who are all nominated alongside Walliams in the 7-14 category. The books are competing for a 2.5k award in each category and the winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on 6 November. The prize is administered by the charity Booktrust.

Mel Giedroyc; the author and Guardian columnist currently sitting on the judging panel had this to say about the awards: “To laugh with a book is a very special kind of laugh indeed … it's an intimate kind of laugh which says 'this is my very own private laugh and it's mine, all mine!' People envy you this laugh, they are deeply curious about it, and they wish the laugh belonged to them too. It's a sheer privilege to tap into some great laughs from some fantastic books."
