David Walliams has claimed that celebrities and people working in the entertainment industry are “over-rewarded”.

The former ‘Little Britain’ star and current ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge was interviewed this week for ‘The Jonathan Ross’ show on ITV, and spoke about the recent OBE he received at Buckingham Palace.

“It was really lovely meeting people from other walks of life who genuinely deserve it because we are over-rewarded in showbusiness,” he said, saying that people who have dedicated their lives to charity work or done pioneering work in medicine were “very inspiring” in comparison to celebrities.

Ross also asked Walliams about his much-discussed rivalry with Simon Cowell on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, and he revealed that he had asked the Syco label boss if he wanted to join him for lunch after the OBE ceremony, but he turned him down.

“I actually invited Simon Cowell,” he continued, “and he said, 'do you think I want to go and celebrate with you while you get an honour?’ I went, 'well you might'. He was like, 'you think I would be pleased for you?'”

“He is very competitive and he thinks that he should get a knighthood. He wants to go straight to the knighthood,” Walliams remarked. “It would be annoying if it was Sir Simon Cowell. OBE is nice but if someone is a sir or a dame you have to call them that, so it's a bit like it's heralding their arrival.”

Meanwhile, away from the television, Walliams dismissed the recent claims of “racism” and “yellow-face” made against him this week after his choice to dress up as Kim Jong-Un for Halloween (incidentally, at Jonathan Ross’ annual party). He screengrabbed a fake text claiming to be from the North Korean dictator, reading “Hi Dave, Loved the Halloween outfit mate! Wet meself laughing. Don't see what all the fuss is about. Kim x.'”
