Funnyman David Walliams Joined Up With A Leading British Politician On Thursday (24sep15) To Launch A Campaign Encouraging More Children To Read Books.
The Little Britain star and U.K. Education Secretary Nicky Morgan visited a school in London to unveil the project, which is aimed at improving literacy rates among children.
Walliams entertained a class of pupils at Charles DICkens Primary School by reading from Roald Dahl's The BFG and a passage from his own kids' book, Gangsta Granny.
He tells Sky News, "The idea is to create book clubs around the country in primary schools to encourage those who might be falling behind a little bit, or children who just have a passion for it, to read as much as they can...
"I think children have such varying abilities that it's very easy for a child to be leaving primary school without a good deal of literacy. And of course that holds them back in so many ways. It's not just about reading books, it affects their future learning (and) their ability to communicate with people. So it's really important that they can leave primary school with proper reading skills, and it's going to help them later in life."
