Death Cab For Cutie I Will Follow You into the Dark Single

Through they're not (yet) a household name in the UK Death Cab for Cutie have been slowly but surely carving out a name for themselves in the US with years of relentless touring. The latest album from the Seattle quartet, Plans is a self dubbed "album of many firsts", not least of all as it's their first release after their switch from indie lable Barsuk to Atlantic Records.

I Will Follow You into the Dark (along with the rest of Plans) was recorded over 28 wintry days of 2005 in Longview studios Massachusetts, an appropriately bleak setting that undoubtedly worked its way in to the recording. The tracks' minimalist production consisting of only acoustic guitar and frontman Ben Gibbard's vocals that literally tell a tale of undying love and the realisation that even those close to you will eventually pass on.

Unfortunately the songs simplicity is its downfall and though the lyrics are well crafted they lack true originality and leave it without the catchy hook to make it a radio success. Don't get me wrong, I Will Follow You into the Dark is a great track, just one that should have only been cut of to 12 and not 7 inch vinyl.
