Fact: Deep Purple's induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Friday (08Apr16) will fall on the 41st anniversary of guitar great Ritchie Blackmore's departure from the band. Blackmore, who has announced he won't be joining his former bandmates at the induction ceremony in New York, played his last gig with Deep Purple on 7 April, 1975.
Fact: Former Rainbow and Deep Purple frontman Joe Lynn Turner has recruited drummer Carmen Appice and bass player Tony Franklin to his new supergroup, Rated X. The band, also featuring Karl Cochran on guitar, has recorded an eponymous debut album, which will be released in November (14).
Fact: Deep Purple star Ian Gillan will lead an attempt to break a record on the beach at Lyme Regis, England on Saturday (06Sep14) when he performs the band's classic track Smoke On The Water backed by thousands of guitarists.
Fact: Deep Purple have dedicated their new album Now What to late bandmate Jon Lord, who died from a pulmonary embolism in July (12) after a battle with pancreatic cancer. A tribute on the album cover reads: "This album is dedicated to Jon Lord. Souls, having touched, are forever entwined."
Fact: British rockers Deep Purple will hit the road later this year (11) with a symphony orchestra to put a classical spin on their greatest hits. The tour will kick off in the U.K. in November (11).
Fact: Heavy rockers Deep Purple met Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev for tea on Wednesday (23Mar11). The President is a lifelong fan of the band. The meeting took place at the President's official residence outside Moscow.
Fact: Classic rockers Deep Purple, WISHBONE ASH and Uriah Heep are teaming up to tour South Africa next summer (10). The three acts will make up the Masters Of Rock tour with three shows confirmed and more planned for next May and June. Dates include the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg and the ICC Arena in Durban.
Fact: Rockers Deep Purple are to play 12 stadium shows in Russia this autumn (08). The SMOKE ON THE WATER hitmakers are among the biggest-selling acts in the former Soviet Union.
Fact: Deep Purple star Ian Gillan has donated a sketch to the Dorset Wildlife Trust in England. The charity's bosses plan to auction off the drawing on website eBay.com to raise funds. The auction ends on 11 November (07).
Fact: Guitarists in Germany set a new world record on Saturday (23Jun07) by performing a mass rendition of Deep Purple's rock anthem SMOKE ON THE WATER. Some 1,800 musicians gathered for the attempt to beat a previous record set by 1,683 guitarists in Kansas City, Kansas on 3 June (07).
