Demi Lovato has praised her boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama for inspiring her to beat her substance abuse problems and eating disorder.

The 22-year-old pop star has been very open about her rehab treatment for drugs, alcoholism, self-harming and bulimia in 2010 and she has revealed Wilmer, 35, refused to ''enable'' her behaviour when they were together at the time.

In an interview on the 'Kyle And Jackie O Show' KIIS 106.5 FM, she said: ''There were some moments when it was off and on when I was struggling with my issues. What he would do is he wouldn't enable me so he'd say, 'I can't be around if you're not going to get your stuff together.' It made me fight for it. He's a very, very good guy.''

The 'Really Don't Care' singer is currently in Australia for her 'Demi World Tour' and after completing her dates Down Under she then moves on to the Far East leg of the tour.

Demi recently claimed she believes she has a responsibility to raise awareness of mental health issues.

The 'Skyscraper' hitmaker said: ''My whole life - all I've wanted to do is help. And I knew that singing could be a platform. And I thought that singing was the loudest I was going to get. It wasn't until I started talking and sharing my story that I realised it was really reaching people. So that's what I believe I'm here to do.''
