Demi Lovato's tattoos remind her to "stay strong".

The former Disney starlet was admitted to rehab in November 2010 to receive three months treatment for an eating disorder and self-harming and got the inkings on her wrists to make sure she doesn't forget what she has overcome.

She told US Glamour magazine: "I think scars are like battle wounds-beautiful, in a way. They show what you've been through and how strong you are for coming out of it. My tattoos say 'Stay strong'/'Stay' on one wrist and 'strong' on the other. Now I'm able to look at them and be thankful for being alive. I think that I've been blessed over the past year to be able to start over."

Demi also revealed she has turned to prayer to help her stay positive.

She explained: "I pray every night before I go to sleep and every morning when I wake up."

Demi, 19, has previously revealed she is grateful to God for the lows she has suffered because they have helped her to become a better person.

She said: "Thinking about how far I have come in a year makes me so thankful. I could not have done this without God and the amazing support from my family.

"Honestly, I am thankful for my life path, including the highs and the lows, because it has caused my true self to shine through. Going to treatment was a gift and I believe it saved my life.

"I learned how to be strong and healthy even through struggles. It also helped me open up about my issues and share them with others. Knowing that my family, friends and fans accept me for who I am is the greatest feeling ever!"
