Demi Moore may have been so affected by the death of her AA sponsor that it contributed to her breakdown this week.
The Daily Mail reports that the loss of Patsy Rugg - a woman Demi used to refer to as 'my mum' - may have played a part in her recent erratic behavior.
Demi was rushed to hospital on Monday night after friends made a 911 call saying that she had 'smoked something' which had left her semi-conscious and 'burning up'.
Although the substance has not been publicly identified, TMZ claimed that Demi had inhaled nitrous oxide at a dinner party at her home.
Demi's breakdown follows an extremely tough few weeks, with her divorce from Ashton Kutcher announced in November, and the death of drugs counselor Pat, 70, shortly afterwards.
A friend told the Daily Mail that failure to have a baby with Ashton also contributed to the star's fragile state: "About a year ago, she realized it wasn't going to happen. With her own daughters pretty much grown up, there was this hole in her life and she filled it with chasing her youth.
"She was trying to keep up with Ashton and as great as she looked, she was still at a different point in her life than he was.
"Despite all that, she's been a fantastic mum to her girls and has always put them first. The problem is that Demi's still in love with Ashton and really wants him back. That's why she hasn't filed divorce papers yet. She still hopes he'll come back to her."
