Ice Age: Collision Course Review

Good

With its fifth feature-length adventure, this franchise continues its preposterous journey at full tilt. As before, it's the zippy writing, lively vocal work and colourful animation that hold the interest. The story is merely a framework on which the cast and crew can hang a series of rapid-fire jokes, pop culture references and nonsensical action sequences. And it's still mindless fun.

After their previous escapades, the expanding herd of prehistoric critters is living a happy life together, thinking about love. Mammoths Manny and Ellis (voiced by Ray Romano and Queen Latifah) are struggling with the idea that their daughter Peaches (Keke Palmer) has fallen for the too-cheerful Julius (Adam Devine). Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo) has just been dumped and feels like he'll never find a partner. And tigers Diego and Shira (Denis Leary and Jennifer Lopez) worry that their violent nature will make them terrible parents. Then suddenly there's a bigger issue to worry about: a giant asteroid is heading for Earth, threatening them with extinction. With the help of nutty weasel Buck (Simon Pegg), they come up with an idea to save the planet. They also discover a magical place called Geotopia, ruled by the groovy Shangri Llama (Jesse Tyler Ferguson).

Yes, the plot is utterly insane, especially as it is driven by the antics of franchise star Scrat, who discovers a flying saucer in the ice, activates it and heads into space, where his acorn-hunting antics trigger all sorts of mayhem back on Earth. But then this series has never had anything to do with science or biology, throwing random animals together (the dinosaurs make another appearance) for comical value while cranking up whatever suspense the writers can think of to add some momentum. They also of course pack scenes with sweet "family values" moments, plus a sideswipe at climate change deniers who refuse to acknowledge the possibility of impending doom.

Ice Age Collision Course - Teaser Trailer

Most people are familiar with the big bang theory but not many people know just how significant Scrat is to the whole preceding. After a fluke accident (whilst trying to protect his beloved acorn) Scrat discovers a frozen alien spaceship and soon begins a collision course which will change the world forever.

Denis Leary's 'Sirens' Fails To Lure The Critics - Reviews Roundup

Denis Leary Kevin Daniels

Loosly based upon the British series of the same name, Sirens follows three narcissistic, self-destructive paramedics with difficult interpersonal relationships as they try to save everyday Americans’ lives. The premise has been set in stone and was critically well ercieved in the U.K, but has Denis Leary’s adaption captured the essence of the original?

Sirens From Left to right: Jessica McNamee, Kevin Daniels, Kevin Bigley and Michael Mosley star in 'Sirens'

It would appear not. The critics haven’t slated Sirens, which is set to debut tonight on the USA channel at 10/9 Central, but positive reviews are hard to come by, and the general consensus is that of ‘could do better’ and ‘distinctly average’.

'Sandlot' Actor Arrested For Cop Headbutt, But Let's Remember The Movie

Tom Guiry Denis Leary

Sandlot actor Tom Guiry, who played Smalls in the hit movie of the 1990s, has been arrested for headbutting a cop and trying to kick him in the face.

In one of the more bizarre stories to come out of tinseltown for some time, TMZ.com report how Guiry was at Bush International Airport in Houston over the weekend when a United Airlines employee concluded he was too drunk to fly. Ah, this old story huh?

The employee contacted an airport copy, who approached Guiry and gave him two options: a public intoxication arrest or jail. The former child actor took the third option, headbutt the cop after a barrage of verbal abuse.

Comedian and actor Denis Leary meets and greets important people as he gets out of his car on his arrival at 'The Late Show With David Letterman'. He pauses only briefly to let papz snap him before he enters the building.

Leary, 54, stars as Captain George Stacy in Marc Webb's upcoming 'The Amazing Spider-Man' alongside Andrew Garfield ('The Social Network', 'Sugar Rush'), Emma Stone ('Zombieland', 'Superbad') and Rhys Ifans ('Notting Hill', 'Little Nicky'). The film is set to amaze UK cine audiences this July (2012)

The Amazing Spider-Man Trailer

Peter Parker is a socially unpopular high-school boy who lives with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May after his parents left him when he was very young for reasons unknown. He finds a clue to their disappearance in the form of his father's suitcase and his journey for an explanation takes him to Oscorp, the weapons manufacturer of New York, and the lab of his father's ex-business partner Dr. Curt Connors who offers him that explanation. Along his journey, the alter-egos of Connors (The Lizard) and Parker (Spider-Man) collide in a continuous battle of superpowers and Parker's feelings for his first high-school crush Gwen Stacy, whose father is a Police Captain with officers all over the city looking for Parker, intensify.

Wide Awake Review

OK
Best known for dazzling us with The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan hit the big screen most recently with this perplexing dud, also about a kid with semi-mystical powers. Wide Awake is not nearly so fascinating as Sense, as it follows the story of a kid who misses his dead grandpa so much he seeks answers about grandpa's well-being from all the religions in the world. Not nearly as interesting as it could have been, Wide Awake quickly provokes yawns and smirks over its cutesy treatment of death.

Do Not Disturb Review

Weak
Holy crap, William Hurt and Jennifer Tilly are married. After arriving in Amsterdam on an animated plane, the couple checks into a fancy hotel and promptly loses their mute daughter, who promptly witnesses a murder and ends up on the run from the killers (including Michael Chiklis, TV's The Commish!).

Between the wholly unbelievable and shoddy police work (there's no sign of a struggle... never mind all the bullet holes!) and Hurt's awful "southern" accent, Do Not Disturb makes it awfully difficult to suspend disbelief. But Do Not Disturb is suspenseful enough to hold your interest, more or less.

Blow Review

OK
In the famed cocaine drama Scarface, I remember a lot of gun battles and bowl after bowl of cocaine spilled on the table. I do not remember heartfelt talks with dad, a cancer-stricken girlfriend, and a child custody battle.

Yet such is the world of Blow, the most wildly anticipated drug thriller since, well, last year's Traffic. Welcome to the "based on a true story" tale of George Jung (the inimitable Johnny Depp), just a suburban boy from New England who tires of his conservative life and heads for -- where else -- L.A. Here (in the 1960s, natch), Jung hooks up with the local hair stylist/drug dealer and starts his own small pot distributorship. Soon enough he's running drugs back to Boston with the help of his friends and flight attendant girlfriend (Run Lola Run's Franka Potente). But just as he's made a name for himself, he gets busted and lands in prison.
