Charlie Sheen must really be looking forward to the weekend
What on earth is going on with Charlie Sheen? After the Anger Management star announced his engagement, his personal life has attracted a perfect storm of controversial news headlines about his family, his ex-wife and his fiancée.
On Wednesday, People reported that there’s a problem with Sheen’s wedding plans – it turned out his fiancée, Brett Rossi, is legally married to someone else. It’s not as bad as it sounds though. Rossi has been separated from her previous husband for over two years – it’s just a matter of settling the paperwork at this point, according to People’s report.
It's been a trouble-filled week in Sheen's camp.
The court date to decide the children's future home has been set for next.
Brooke Mueller’s twin boys, over whom she shares custody with Charlie Sheen, were taken from her home last night. The measure was put in place by the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services after the home was deemed unsafe, TMZ reports. officials from the department arrived to Brooke's home Thursday with a warrant - and took 4-year-old Bob and Max out of the house. The boys have reportedly been placed in the care of Denise Richards, the mother of Sheen’s two girls. This is, however, just a temporary solution, until a better living situation can be secured for the boys.
The twins were removed from Mueller’s home after it was deemed unsafe – reportedly because she had started using drugs again. This is a problem Mueller has been struggling with for years, so it is entirely likely that, if proven guilty, she might lose custody rights over the boys. A court date has been set for next week, and that trial will aim to find a more permanent living situation for the children. In situations like this, the children are usually given to the closest relative, but it isn’t hard to guess why in this case the authorities chose Richard’s home over that of Charlie Sheen. There are (probably) no “goddesses” walking around her place, after all.
The mother of two has been struggling with substance abuse for years.
Denise Richards mourns the passing of her beloved French bulldog Hank, this week.
Hank passed away on Sunday (January 21, 2013) and Denise paid tribute to her four-legged friend on Twitter and posted a picture of Hank with the message “last night we lost our beloved Hank..I will miss him dearly,13 yrs old ..been there for me thru it all Best.”
Denise is a keen animal lover and according to the Daily Mail, has a “large family of rescue cats and dogs” that she cares for along with her three daughters Sam, Lola and Eloise. Recently, Richards helped out at an animal shelter that was inundated with animals needing shelter in the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s devastation. As well as volunteering at the shelter and encouraging people to help out with donations, she also adopted a little black Labrador puppy that she named Lily. On Thursday, she tweeted “Day off tomorrow. Heading to an animal shelter, to help out. Over 600 rescued from the hurricane. My girls are coming to help too.”

The film stars Eddie Griffin as Undercover Brother, a modern day black man with a wild afro and everything a '70s man could want, including a solid gold caddy, platform shoes, and polyester bell-bottoms. Brother is recruited by the B.R.O.T.H.E.R.H.O.O.D. organization to help overpower the evil efforts of "The Man." The Man, along with henchmen "The Feather" (Chris Kattan) and "White She-Devil" (Denise Richards) are causing havoc with race relations between blacks and whites. In "Operation Whitewash," The Man has influenced black General Boutwell (Billy Dee Williams) to not run for President, but rather to open a chain of fast food chicken restaurants.

Played by John Leguizamo, Victor Rosa is a Latino gangsta with all the ambition of a young Godfather and all the attitude of a taller Joe Pesci. He spends his days violently whacking errant drug dealers and monitoring the sales of his own designer "street pharmaceutical" not so subtly labeled Empire -- which is exactly what Vic thinks he's building in his little bit of the South Bronx. But when his girlfriend (Delilah Cotto) announces that she's pregnant, he thinks it might be time to go legit.

Although, quite honestly, I don't have a particular problem with porn (it just isn't in the regular canon of films to be reviewed, that's all), that simple joke often proves true. One-too-many guilty pleasure flicks have been bashed by me on the account that they do nothing other than serve as a generalized platform for commercializing sex without any other cinematic value. And, although I am willing to give points in such a B-or-C-grade film for casting a woman with certain... assets... that suit the part, I find myself unable to otherwise turn off the "critic's switch" within me to the point that I can be guiltlessly turned on by the images in front of me on the screen.

An "Austin Powers"-style blaxploitation spoof, "Undercover Brother" doesn't miss a single joke. Its title sequence alone -- a montage depicting the rise and fall of African-American culture (from Jesse Jackson and James Brown highs to Urkel and Dennis Rodman lows) -- is a laugh riot, in a sad-but-true kind of way.
So is the plot, about The Man, a megalomaniacal Caucasian corporate billionaire, trying to stop a Colin Powell-like black politician (Billy Dee Williams) from running for president ("He's so well-spoken," says a patronizing white news anchor). The Man has him kidnapped and brainwashed into opening a chain of fried chicken joints that will serve "nappy meals" instead. (Politically correct? What's that?)
There's only one man who can stop this evil plan: Undercover Brother, baby!

The honeymoon is over for Pierce Brosnan's incarnation of James Bond.
Just as Brosnan has begun to clearly distinguish his own bent on the character -- less loquacious than his predecessors, with an artful but well-bred smirk, quick to resort to lethal measures, yet an acute vulnerability when it comes to his bed mates -- most everything else that made the 1990s 007 renaissance such a smartly balanced mix of classic Bond and modern action has already been turned into a tired, caricature-like shadow of itself in "The World Is Not Enough."
The new, sassy and independent Miss Moneypenny (Samatha Bond) has been relegated back to desk duty and her banter reduced to a routine of spiritless double-entendres. Coming off her "Shakespeare In Love" Oscar win, Judi Dench's delightfully dour M has been laboriously humanized, given a conscience that doesn't suit her.

Leaning hard into ham-fisted mockery of beauty pageants and Midwesterners, "Drop Dead Gorgeous" is an exercise in frustration.
It's frustrating because this mocumentary condemnation of the objectification of teenage girls is ripe with thick, delicious layers of irony, but director Michael Patrick Jann -- whose background is in sketch comedy -- allows that irony to be beaten to death by cheap, madcap overacting.
Following two frontrunners in the fictional American Teen Princess Pageant, "Gorgeous" applies its comedy with all the precision of a paint roller. Wide swaths of disposable laughs come from parading the absurdly varied and one-dimensional contestants before the camera. There's a showtune freak with a drag queen brother, a fat chick, an American girl adopted by Japanese immigrants, a brainiac who wants to do a Shakespeare soliloquy in the talent competition, an interpretive dancer and a soccer dyke -- whose death in a farming accident sets up the plot, revolving around how far one girl might go to win.

Any chance that "Empire" might be all that different from other drug- dealer- trying- to- go- straight movies is lost with the opening voice-over, in which heroin mini-kingpin Victor Rosa (John Leguizamo) rattles off a dozen street life clichés in 60 seconds, starting with the line, "Damn, if I'd known then what I know now! It's all about making money, baby."
Never mind that the plot includes the hero losing his shirt and his boss's drug money in a Wall Street scam perpetrated by a savvy, Caucasian, uptown con artist. That only serves to prove that Victor is a sucker, not that his story is any different from those of drug dealers depicted in scads of other movies from the last 15 years -- October's "Paid In Full" or 1994's "Sugar Hill," for example.
Universal Pictures even admits as much in the film's press kit, which compares it "in theme and execution" to a "list of urban gangster films" but goes on to trumpet the fact that "Empire" is the first time this recycled story "has been told from the point of view of a Latino character."
