Perhaps there’s a reason Denzel Washington doesn’t do comedy films. He’s established himself as one of the finest dramatic actors of a generation, played our favorite maverick cops, unlikely heroes and even thrown in a couple of brilliant antagonist performances.

Mark Wahlberg
Are Wahlberg and Washington - a comedy duon't?

Comedy, perhaps, isn’t his strong suit.

Wahlberg’s managed to coast by on a number of big budget movies, riding the waves of other comedians while his rigid, muscular performances tend to fly under the radar – a strange persona for probably the busiest man in Hollywood.

The general consensus from the critics, is that their new movie 2 Guns lacks ‘something’. The story: two crooked cops, both acting undercover but unbeknown to each other, accidentally reveal their identities. Confused? They then have to work together, despite being chased themselves, to find out who the real criminals are and to take them down.

Don’t worry, that ‘something’ the film is missing? Well it’s depth, so you wont find yourself lost if you actually bother to see this movie.

“Though individual set pieces are well done, the film inevitably leaves an empty taste behind it once it's done,” say The Los Angeles Times, while USA Today say: “Thousands of rounds of ammo are spent in 2 Guns, a brutal, complicated and sporadically funny movie that still seems slight.”

Big name stars and a funny trailer should see it through the August 16th release date without any problems, but a 59% rating on Rotten Tomatoes might ward off the purists.
