I can't believe Christmas is nearly upon us, how do I know this without looking at the calendar. Because every advert between kids programmes could be seen as a brainwashing exercise for toy manufacturers, well that's one reason. But here's the other, the inevitable deluge of greatest hit album released before November. First outta the blocks is this album from the Queens of the urban and pop world in one fail swoop. As you would expect all the million sellers are here. The pro power woman song that made the Spice Girls look like pussy cats in the war on men "Independent Woman", "Survivor", "Bootylicious", "Bills Bill's Bill's" and of course the track that launched this very fruitful career "No No No". Added to this are the recent monster's "Loose My Breath" and Soldier. Plus the classy down low sawyer "Cater 2 U" and the breathtaking all taken from an album that was arguably one of their finest, probably too good in fact for pop journalists to understand. But if I had to pick two tracks from DC that summed everything about this amazing group, their vocal talent, song writing, ability to keep happy both the real urban market and pop market more than happy and their unrivalled use of some of the worlds top producers, you would have to pick firstly "Say My Name', the unity of Destiny's Child and Darkchild, was the collaboration that took DC from being urban icons to the worlds biggest selling female group. Meanwhile "Girl" showed the side of DC that warmed themselves to the quality R&B market, this track may not have been their biggest pop record but it was without doubt one of their classiest. A good way to bring down the curtain on the R&B super groups amazing career. This is this years must have stocking filler and in Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle Destiny's have three real stocking thrillers.
