The live action reimagining of arguably Disney's most badass princess 'Mulan' is finally underway, and set to hit theatres towards the end of 2018. Rumour has it that production on the movie is now being fast-tracked, and that it will be released in 3D.

The new film will of course be based on the Oscar nominated 1998 animated adventure directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook and featuring the voices of Ming-Na Wen and BD Wong. The search is now on for the actress who will star as the brave warrior, and a director is also yet to be announced.

So far, all we know about the new movie is that Jason Reed, Chris Bender, J.C. Spink and Jake Weiner are linked to produce. Plus, Lauren Hynek, Elizabeth Martin and 'Jurassic World' writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver are on board to write the screenplay. It was previously rumoured that Tang Wei from 'Blackhat' and Gao Xiang would star in the film as as yet undisclosed roles.

The original movie is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan and follows the adventures of a young girl who secretly takes her ailing father's place when he is enlisted to go to war against the invading Huns. She passes off as a boy for the most part until her Captain, Li Shang, discovers her ruse and casts her out of the military. However, she's determined to put the skills she's learnt to good use, realising that this really could be her true vocation.
