The Scottish actor began playing the Time Lord in 2013, but the iconic role has not afforded him any special treatment from his family.

Speaking to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, Capaldi says, "I still watch shows on my day off but my wife won't let me watch them. I can only watch them here (at work). But it's great because I just phone the office and ask for an episode and there'll be a knock at the trailer door and it'll be presented to me. I still watch shows on my day off.

"They (my family) don't think I'm an iconic character at home. When I go home of a weekend I still have to make my own coffee."
