J.K. Rowling donated money to charity in the name of a fan who tragically died aged 9.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling read the unfinished manuscript of the fourth Harry Potter book, The Goblet of Fire, for an American fan who was terminally ill of cancer.  Catie Hoch died in 2000 after undergoing numerous cancer treatments but it had been her dying wish to finish the fourth book, as the Telegraph reports.

Rowling did not only write to Catie but also visited her in hospital. After Catie's death, Rowling donated a whopping £75,000 to a cancer charity in Catie's name and wrote a letter to her parents. Rowling wrote: "I consider myself privileged to have had contact with Catie. I can only aspire to being the sort of parent both of you have been to Catie during her illness. I am crying so hard as I type. She left footprints on my heart all right. With much love, Jo."
