It’s been 15 years since the release of the trilogy’s first movie, ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’.
The cast of Lord of the Rings held a mini reunion on Tuesday to fight a cave troll in a restaurant, using cutlery.
Dominic Monaghan, who played Meriadoc Brandybuck in the franchise, shared a series of epic ‘squad goals’ pictures on Instagram, showing himself alongside Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Billy Boyd (Peregrin Took) and Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn).
In one image the cast reenacted a Moria fight scene using knives and forks. Monaghan captioned the shot with a quote from the sadly absent Boromir (played by Sean Bean) writing: “They have a cave troll. #squadgoals.”
Monaghan also posted a picture of himself alongside Mortensen with the caption: “My captain. My king.” On twitter Billy Boyd also got in on the fun, sharing Monaghan’s battle scene pic and writing: “Elijah was thinking ahead and of his head....he wore a Mithril hat! Intelligent Forward thinking from the ring bearer. BB x.”
More: David Bowie Was Just Too Busy To Play Gandalf In 'Lord Of The Rings'
Last year Monaghan had revealed that he once saw David Bowie at casting agency in London, auditioning for a role in the trilogy. “David Bowie came in and signed his little list and went in,” he told the Huffington Post. “And I’m assuming he read for Gandalf. I can’t think of anything else he would’ve read for.”
The rumours about Bowie nearly being cast as Gandalf were then confirmed by casting director Amy Hubbard in November, who said the legendary singer was asked about taking the role but was just too busy to make the three film commitment.
