Donald Trump hosted 'Saturday Night Live' for the first time this weekend, despite protesters who didn't want to see the presidential candidate given a platform by the NBC show. During the episode Trump participated in skits and even poked fun at himself, as he continues to drum up support for his presidential campaign.

"A lot of people are saying. Donald, you're the most amazing guy," Trump began his opening monologue. "You're brilliant. You're handsome. You're rich...The world is waiting for you to be president so why are you hosting "Saturday Night Live?” And the answer is I have really nothing better to do.”

The episode also saw Trump address his much publicised feud with Rosie O'Donnell. "She said some things about me that were hurtful and untrue," Trump said. "I said some things about her that were mean but completely accurate.”

The Republican candidate also took part in a skit which imitated the music video for Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’, complete with embarrassing dance moves. In a later sketch, with comedian Kenan Thompson, Trump poked fun at his attempt to question President Obama’s birthplace.

“An extremely credible source just told me that Kenan Thompson’s birth certificate is a fraud,” read a Trump tweet that was shown onscreen. But not everyone was happy to see The Donald at the Rockefeller Center.

Dozen of people studio outside the studios with placards protesting Trump’s appearance, mostly because of his previous comments about illegal immigration and Mexico. "There's nothing funny about racism," said Brent Wilkes, executive director of the League of United Latin American Citizens told the NYDN.

“This gentleman has said some very negative, racist things about the Latino community. We believe he's a bigot. He's racist…There's no place for somebody like that on 'Saturday Night Live.’” But like him or not, Trump’s appearance did cause the show to bring in an impressive 6.6 rating, their biggest overnight number since 2012.
