‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ has not been on the air for two years, but is set to return to NBC on January 2nd hosted by former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Trump’s spokeswoman Hope Hicks offered an explanation as to the situation on Thursday (December 8th). “Mr. Trump has a big stake in the show and conceived of it with Mark Burnett,” she said, referring to the show’s co-creator.

NBC cut its business ties with Trump in July 2015 shortly after he had announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination, citing his comments asserting that Mexican immigrants are rapists and criminals that stirred such outrage.

The arrangement via which Trump might be paid for his executive production role is with MGM – with his former partner Burnett now the head of its television division.

Although Burnett now owns the franchise outright and Trump has no active part of it, having bowed out after his final episode in February 2015, he apparently does retain a residuary financial interest in all 'The Apprentice' spin-offs that have been launched around the world.

Trump has announced a press conference on December 15th, during which he will explain his plans to separate himself from his multitude of business interests before he becomes sworn in as president, as demanded by government ethics officials.
