At what point did Doris Day lose track of her age? The former film star gets a surprise on her birthday today because she has discovered that she is actually two years older than she previously thought she was. She is 95-years-old this year.

Over the weekend, it was proved to Doris that her birth certificate puts her being born in 1922 rather than 1924 as she had thought. It's unclear at what point the retired actress started to get her own age wrong, but she was adamant enough to be turning 93. Just goes to show you can't believe everything you read on Wikipedia.

Nonetheless, despite being older, she is thrilled to get to the truth. 'I've always said that age is just a number', Doris said in a statement yesterday (April 2nd 2017) obtained by The Guardian. 'I have never paid much attention to birthdays, but it's great to finally know how old I really am!'

There is one theory as to why Doris may have started to get muddled when it came to her age. 'The story I have heard the most is that at one point Doris was up for a role when quite young and her age may have been miswritten on the audition form', said her spokesman Charley Cullen Walters. 'We don't know if that's correct, but if so it could've simply stuck for all these years.'

More: It was previously rumoured that Doris Day was returning to acting

Either that or she deliberately fibbed about her age for a better chance at getting a role once, and then forgot her real age. It wouldn't be the first time an actress has pretended to be younger than they are for the purpose of Hollywood. Women such as Rebel Wilson, Jessica Chastain and Sandra Bullock have all been guilty of bending the truth to make themselves more appealing.

So happy 95th birthday Doris Day!
