He passed away surrounded by his family in Santa Monica, California on Sunday (19Jul15). The cause of his death had not been revealed as WENN went to press.

Cook and his screenwriting partner David Weisberg wrote the scripts for 1996 action film The Rock, starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage, and 1999 crime thriller Double Jeopardy.

The pair's most recent movie Criminal is scheduled for release in January next year (16). The action film stars Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman, Kevin Costner and Tommy Lee Jones.
