Straight Outta Compton is on top of the US box office for the third-straight week taking an estimated $13.2 million at US theaters. The N.W.A. biopic beat Christian drama War Room to keep the number one spot, while Zac Efron’s We Are Your Friends suffered a massive flop.

Straight Outta Compton now joins Jurassic World to become the only other film to top the US box office for three consecutive weeks this summer. The biopic’s box office total now stands at $134.1 million.

War Room was the surprise of the weekend, taking $11 million. The Christian drama found appeal with faith based audiences and benefitted from a slow weekend. The film, which was directed by Alex Kendrick, follows a family facing problems who find healing through prayer.

Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony commented, "We knew that we were going to get a lot of love, we just didn't expect quite this much love. This is a genre that we're very much committed to."

In at number three was thriller No Escape starring Owen Wilson and Lake Bell, which opened with $8.3 million. Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation managed to stay in the top five in its fifth week coming in at number four, taking $8.3 million and bringing its North American total to $170.4 million. The top five was then rounded off by horror sequel Sinister 2.

But Zac Efron’s We Are Your Friends managed to get no where near the top five or the top 10, opening with just $1.8 million on 2,333 screens.The film stars Efron as a EDM DJ trying to make it on the Los Angeles party scene.

Critics had given the move mostly negatvie reviews and it currently holds a 43% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Its poor performance over the weekend means We Are Your Friends is now one of the lowest ever openings for a movie which played so widely, according to Fox news.
