Two women who were allegedly assaulted by Dr Dre in the 1990s have spoken out about the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, saying it ignores the rapper’s abusive attitude towards women during his early career. Singer Michel’le, a former girlfriend and journalist Dee Barnes have both accused Dre of violence during the early 1990s.

In a piece written for Gawker Barnes says she was attacked by Dre during a record-release party in January 1991. Dre pleaded no contest to the charges over the incident and he later settled out of court with Barnes after a civil lawsuit.

“That event isn’t depicted in Straight Outta Compton, but I don’t think it should have been, either, The truth is too ugly for a general audience,” Barnes wrote. “But what should have been addressed is that it occurred … Like many of the women that knew and worked with NWA, I found myself a casualty of Straight Outta Compton’s revisionist history.”

“In his lyrics, Dre made hyperbolic claims about all these heinous things he did to women. But then he went out and actually violated women,” Barnes added. “Straight Outta Compton would have you believe that he didn’t really do that. It doesn’t add up.”

Dre’s former girlfriend Michel’le also recently spoke to Vlad Tv about the film’s omissions saying, ”Why would Dre put me in it? If they start from where they start from, I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat up and told to sit down and shut up.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this month Dre addressed the 1991 incident with Barnes as well as the claims of abuse made by Michel’le. "I made some fucking horrible mistakes in my life," Dre said.

"I was young, fucking stupid. I would say all the allegations aren't true – some of them are. Those are some of the things that I would like to take back. It was really fucked up. But I paid for those mistakes, and there's no way in hell that I will ever make another mistake like that again."
