Drake reportedly failed to show up to a concert he was scheduled to perform at an Abu Dhabi nightclub last weekend, despite reportedly being paid nearly $250,000 for the show.

The 30 year old Canadian rapper, who scored a worldwide chart-topping album with Views earlier this year, was nowhere to be seen on Saturday night (November 26th) at a planned event at the VIP ROOM in Dubai.

It was initially claimed that the club’s management and Drake’s people had a falling out before the gig, but a club representative explained the following day that too many people had turned up to see him play, thereby preventing his appearance due to safety issues over crowd size, according to the Mirror.

Devoted fans were said to have waited until as late as 5am for their hero to arrive onstage, and many were left extremely disappointed by his eventual no-show.

“His management had an argument with the management of Abu Dhabi pop-up nightclub VIP ROOM last night and he didn't turn up for an appearance that he'd been paid £200k for,” an unnamed source said later, stoking claims of a dispute.

However, a spokesperson claimed on Sunday that sheer overcrowding had been the cause of Drake’s absence. “Due to Drake's overwhelming popularity, the sheer number of people that turned up outside of the VIP Room made it completely unsafe for Drake to even enter the venue in the end; so he was unable to perform.”

Also in Abu Dhabi on the same weekend was the rapper’s former flame Rihanna. Although they had been widely rumoured to have been dating just a few months ago, after Drake publicly declared his love for her at the MTV VMAs, they avoided each other completely at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that weekend and failed to perform their collaboration hits ‘Work’ or ‘Take Care’.

That’s that over, then.
