Fact: Late jazz legend Duke Ellington has landed his own street honour in the heart of New York City. The cast of After Midnight, the hit musical which celebrates the star's years at Harlem's famous Cotton Club, turned out in costume on Thursday (05Jun14) to mark the occasion as the intersection of Broadway and West 47th Street was renamed Duke Ellington Way. It's the second such accolade to be bestowed upon the musician - there is also a Duke Ellington Boulevard in Manhattan's Upper West Side neighbourhood.
Fact: A new illustrated book lifts the lid on the jazz scene in 1920s New York. The tome, titled Jazz. New York in the roaring twenties, penned by Robert Nippoldt, takes a look at the time when the likes of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington made the Big Apple swing.
