If you were a child of the 80s, NBC's TV sitcom series Saved By The Bell is sure to have a special place in your heart. With its upbeat plotlines that addressed darker moral issues such as drug use or divorce, SBTB entertained millions of teenagers during its airing from 1989 to 1993. After the show's cancellation the high school sitcom quickly became a cult favourite with many in their twenties or thirties reminiscing about the life lessons they learned as well as the hilarious hijinks of mischievous Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), nerdy Samuel "Screech" Powers (Dustin Diamond) and all-American cheerleader, Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani-Amber Thiessen).

Now, NBCUniversal has teamed up with Lion Forge Comics to create digital graphic novels based on not only Saved by the Bell, but also other well-loved 80s/90s shows such as Punky Brewster, Knight Rider, Airwolf, and Miami Vice.

Lion Forge CEO David Steward recognised the cultural significance and nostalgic impact reviving long-cancelled TV shows could have: "From hugely popular characters such as Crockett and Tubbs, Zack Morris and Punky Brewster to highly stylized music and clothing choices, these TV franchises have had a significant impact on pop culture. We here at Lion Forge are looking forward to extending that influence by creating visually appealing and entertaining experiences on mobile devices for a whole new generation of fans,"reports CBS News.

Chris Lucero, a director at NBCUniversal Television, spoke of the company's delight at being able to revive old shows on a new platform: "We're excited to give fans a chance to revisit some of their favorite shows and characters in a completely new way." Fans won't be able to pick up physical copies of the transformed TV series; instead they'll be able to purchase the digital comic books online through Apple's iBooks, Amazon's Kindle Bookstore, Barnes & Noble's The Nook Book Store and Kobo.
