DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON had a lot to be grateful for this Thanksgiving.

The wrestler-turned-actor spent the holiday with his family, including girlfriend Lauren Hashian and mother Ata Johnson and on Friday he shared a sweet family snap with a very personal message.

After joking about not giving up his Sexiest Man Alive title to Blake Shelton this year, Johnson remembered when Thanksgivings were very different for his family.

'After we bowed our heads in prayer, we went around the table and everyone shared what they were thankful for,' Johnson wrote.

'Beautiful seeing and listening to everyone speak from their heart. Tears, laughter and boundless gratitude. It was a very special Thanksgiving,' he continued.

'As my mom pointed out earlier in the day, there was a time back in ‘87 when we couldn’t even afford Thanksgiving dinner and was praying someone would invite us over their house to eat. We were in a tough spot back then, but we got thru it. And here we are today.'

Johnson signed off: 'One big, extended, blended, slightly crazy, loving, grateful ohana (Hawaiian for family).'

Johnson has previously spoken about the tough financial times he faced before becoming a WWE Superstar.

His production company is named 7 Bucks after the amount he had left in his wallet in 1995 when he returned to Miami after being cut from Canadian Football League team The Calgary Stampeders.

Johnson is now gearing up for the release of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle which hits theatres on December 20.
