Ed Sheeran is reportedly scheduled to have an important role at the forthcoming wedding of Courteney Cox and Snow Patrol Guitarist Johnny McDaid, and surprisingly it is not to be the wedding singer.

"She has never been happier. And even though it's her second marriage, she would like people important to her to be there," a source close to Cox told The Sun. "Not only is Ed great mates with Johnny, he is a close friend of Courteney's."

"Ed said yes immediately when asked. Johnny's other best pal, singer Foy Vance, is also an usher. It's between him and Ed for best man - they'll probably share it," the insider continued.

Although many people will be surprised that the 50 year-old actress and Sheeran are close friends, the more shocking part is that the 23 year-old recording artist has to take a huge amount of credit for Cox and McDaid tying the knot as he apparently introduced the pair.

The lovebirds, who first went public with their relationship last December (2013), opened up about their romance while walking the red carpet in New York City for the premiere of Cox's directorial debut, 'Just Before I Go', this past April. "He supports me creatively," the 'Cougar Town' actress said. "He really believed in the movie...and not just because he likes me, though I know that helps."

McDaid also collaborated with his future wife in the flick as Snow Patrol wrote three tracks for it. "We get to kiss between takes," the 37 year-old guitarist said when referring to working with Cox. "Courteney is the most completely confident person I've ever met - at everything."

The couple's big day is expected to take place in Ireland's Ashford Castle later this year, with another ceremony planned back in California.
