The singer shared a picture of himself and the film’s star Renee Zellweger on Instagram, Monday, confirming that he will appear in the much-anticipated sequel. ‘Spent the day being an actor in the new Bridget Jones movie. Loved it, you're gonna love it too,’ Sheeran captioned the image.

According to reports Sheeran gained favour with the film's casting crew earlier this year, after allowing them access to one of his gigs at Croke Park in Dublin. The 24 year old was then said to have been offered a speaking part in the film.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Ed was really keen to be part of the movie after granting access to film at his gig. He's got experience playing himself in ‘Home And Away’ and is not daunted by the prospect of starring alongside Renee."

While details on the film’s plot are being kept under wraps, we do know that Colin Firth will be returning as Bridget’s love interest Mark Darcy and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor Patrick Dempsey has also been cast in an as-yet-undisclosed role.

The film has been provisionally titled Bridget Jones’ Baby and is thought to centre around a now 40-something Bridget’s journey into motherhood. Sadly one character who wont be returning for the sequel is the womanising Daniel Cleaver, who was played by Hugh Grant in the first two movies.
